• KISSINGER SHOULD BE FIRED
Henry Kissinger should be fired on the
3pot for conduct against the Interests
of the nation he serves as secretary
of state.
It was Kissinger who helped engineer
the great wheat steal by communist
Russia. American taxpaye rs are subsi-
dizing a great portion of the cpst, and
perhaps all of it, and the Ameri~an
families are now feeling the drastic
eff~cts on their grocery bill as the prices
of bread goes up and up. It was Kissin-
ger's "success" in a chieving the Ara b-
Israel accord that has assured commu-
nist Russia control over the vitally
strategic Suez Canal. Now comes the
crowning insult and most deadly threat
t o Am erican security, Kissinger's arro-
gant, anti-American uagreement in
principle" that the U. S. would turn
over control of the Panama Canal t o the
communis t dominated gover nment of
Panama.
Never in the histor y of American
foreign policy has there been such fool-
hardy determinati:m to weal,en the U. S.
and imperil our s overeignty and at the
same time strengthen the communist
enemy, who has never deviated from
his threat "to bury us.,
" Fortunately for the fu ture of our na-
•tion, there is a rising tide of anger
against the anti-American aud-.clty of • our secretary of state. Cries of rage
have er upted from both Republicans and
Democrats, from both conservatives and
llbe rals. It is noteworthy to r eport that
the greatest• applause for Robert Wel ch
at last Saturday's John Bir ch Society
Council dinner came when Mr. Welch
described the latest car bumper sticker
being r eadied l or distribution:
DON'T GIVE THE CANAL TO PAN AMA
--GIVE 1 HEM KISSINGER !N8TEAD I
We should follow Geor ge Washington's
advice on the selection of his aide.<:

About a year a&Q, a chemist offered a dime
to his daushter and to any of her fourth-11ade
classmates who could supply the answer to a
simple multiplication problem -S times 9.
None of the chUdren won the dime. He !hen
examined his dauJ,hter's textbook and by the
time he'd reached page fo ur, he found that he
was unable to answer DJ'IY of the questions .
Justifia bly upset, he took the book to work
and found thai none or his colleaaues -many
with advanced degrees and broad experience in
higher mathematics -could fathom fourth·

began a · personal crusade against this latest

although his daughter had received the highest

"new math," she couldn"l multiply , and even
had difficulty with simple addition.

In California. the parents of an eighteen·
year-old high school graduale recently sued
their school diSiricl for S500,()(X) because their
son is barely able to read. The suit charges the
school system with fraud and malpractice evi-

Educators lhroughoul the United States are
carefuUy watching the progress of this suit

If I wanted to find out what kind
of game American football was
_ J wouldn't wander out to a vacani
lot to watch some kids kick a ball
around. I'd hunt up a good team and
watch it play. I'd watch the Cleve-
land Browns!
In-the same way, if 1 were out to discover what Christianity is, I
_would look at Jesus Christ himself,
and I would find the best Christian
txample 1 eould. So we C hristiam r.ve to be sure that the ima~ we

ow that Chri!tianity is the great-est thing going.
Everything in life is insignificant
when compared to accepting the
most important challenge the world
has ever known : to s tand for Christ.
And that is no small potatoes.
I am thrilled that so many ama-
teur and" professional athletes today
are coming to stand for Jes us Christ
in an unashamed way. Because they
are o ften in the s potlight, and be-
cause young people look up to them.
they have a great opportunity to
present Christ .
They have also a responsibility,
fo r the athlete must not be a phony.
Neither ~houl d he be a moral police-
man , ~lapping people on the wrist
and passing out "do's" and "don'ts."
Nothing is more repulsive t han a
legalistic ChriRtian who has s unk
to the narrow feeling that ChriR-
tianity is only what he does o r does
not-do. Christianity is no t just leav-
ing out t hings. It is not just follow-
ing a moral code. Christianity is
knowing J esus Christ in your heart.
Our witness will be contagiou s if
we represent a relationship to the
li vi ng pe rson of C hrist.
GftiEAT FILM DAY OF THE UNIVERSE
One o f the most painful episodes
of a footba ll player's life is review-
·ing game film!-!. You might have
thought you played a fine game, but
the camera d oesn't lie. The coaches
a re eager to point out your mistakes
very v ividly, and to say, "Let's run
H lmck." So they run the film back
and say, "Let's lolee if he does it right
this t ime." But it's the same film!
Oh, it's amazing how great these
coaches are!
Now, on t he Great Film Day
.of the Universe. the Master Coach
'is going to s it in judgment on all
the wor ld. And how tragic it is
·going to be when J*Qple tell that
Ma~ter Coac h why they never ac-
cepted the greatest challenge the -
world has ever known. And why
didn't they ? Because they found
there were Christians who were
phony about standing tor Christ!
It would be laughable if it were not
so sad.

SUNDAY MOANING 818LIE 'HUDDLES'
Th~sa me sort of progress is being
made throughout the National Foot-
ball League. Buddy Dial. offensive
e nd. started a Sunday mo rning de-
votional study at both Pittsburgh
and Dallas. Even the coaches came.
At Baltimore Ray Berry, the great
end, and linebacker Don Shinnick
organized a Sunday morning meet-
ing among the Colt players. In each
~ there were 20 to 25 players
turning out each week.
In oul' Friday night study and
prayer group we get together and
rewrite a passage of Scripture in
our own words and then give the
s umma1·y of the passage to the
g roup. Then we discuss what the
passagt> r eally means to us in our
lives, and talk about what it is to
live for Jesus Christ on the ball club.
It all started for me when I was
16 years ol d. in high school in Cor-
pus Christi, Texas. I came face to
face with one whom I could not
s ide-step. It was something like the
situation create(~ by a trap block
on the football field. Picture me
playing defensive end for the
Browns. I charge across the line and
no one hits me. Right away 1 know
something is wrong. Invariably,
when I glance to the inside I see
a big trap blocker coming at me at
top speed.
Here he com es. about 260 pounds
of pulling guar d, his teeth gritted.
I know it is his intention to run
over me. I can't describe it to you
unless you have been stalled on a
railroad track at midnight, and have
looked up and seen the headliifht of
the train bobbing back a nd forth.
That's what his teeth Jook like to me.
I HAD TO FACE HIM SGUAUL Y
There a re several things I can
do. I can side-step him to the out-
side. But if I do he just bumps me a
little bit further, and the back cuts
to the inAide. And it may mean six
point.~! Or, I can side-step the block-
er to the inside, but then he cuts
me in and the back cuts to the out-
side. And again he makes a lot of
yardage.
No, my only hope is the most
difficult, the most bone-shaking thing
of all. That is to face the big guard
head-on, right in the middle. That
is not comfortable, nor, if I am hon-
est, is it the thing I want to do. But
it is the only way to !lop a trap play.
And so it was when I wa! a high
school boy, J faced one whom I could
not side-step. He said to me "I
am the way, the truth, and the fife:
no man cometh unto the Father, but
by m e." I wanted to side-.tep him
and say, "You don't understand, sir.
I'm a good guy. I'm a church mem~
ber."" But all ot my eelf-righteouo-
neas wu so much uhea: and to side-
step him meant to go to my own
oblivion and de!truetton. And I
knew it.
So I had to fa<e him oquarely and
teU him one of two thlnp. Either
he waa the way to God or he waa
not. Either he wu the bfn-t liar w6o ever Jived, or he wu Ccid'a Son.
So I fa<ed him. aDd worohlped ~ and made bla _, my wq. I
to him, "By God"a Gnco. I will
•&and tor JOU."
And ul. -h aDd the .-:h

A. Thl' doctrine of the reaurrection
is only in very vague and eeneral

rea.son i!l clear: these matters did
not demand darity until the reaur-

A . Nothing makes us happier than to
rPceive-a quPstion like this. It Is
'li mple: co me to Him. ask Him, re-
ceive Him, believe upon Him. Read
in the Gospel& how tile Lord Jesus
Christ came into the world, diPd for
our sins, ro!W! from the grave, and
returned to Heaven. He took our
place, died in our room and atead,
t·eceivcd the penalty which we de-
served, will aave us from hell -if
Wl' will allow Him to be our Saviour.
Ours is a "done," not a "do-it·your·

mind with verses such as John 1 :12 ;

A. In replyin1 to this important
quution, I wi•h to quote from Dr.
R. A. Torrey in his valuable book,
DijJieatltitl aM AUtgtd Error• l11.
Ill,. Bibl': "God the Father, In Hil
eternal euence, Ia Invisible (un&ee-
able ) (I Tim. 1 :17). No man hath
seen Him nor can we aee Him (I
Tim. 6:16). He ia Spirit, not form
(John 4 :23, 24) so John tells ua that
'No man hath &een God at any time.
The only begotten Son, which ia in
the bosom of the Father, he hath
declared him.' This invilible, unsee-
able God is unfolded to u11, inter.
preted to ua in the lol.'Ords and person
of Jesus H imaelf. So fully is He
declared, that Jesus could say: 'He
that hath seen me hath st!en the
Father' (John 14 :9 ).
"This essentially Invisible God has
been pleased to manifest Himself
Blf&in and ftR"ain in bodily form.
Mose!l and the 70 elders saw such a

they wert' in the mount; Isaiah 11aw

tr:mslated form in this passage
mt ·a ns 'the form by which a penon

tau~orht that the external appearance
of J esus in His pre-exill.tent form
was Lhe external appearance of God,
that. is, that the invisible God, who

A HEW SONG TO Tlll I.OlD
Isaiah 42:1-17
f'>:no..l myself : now will I

devour at once, l will make wastt
mountains and hills, and dry up all
their herbs ; and I will make the rivers
islands, and I will dry up the pools.
And I will bring 1ht blind by a way
that they knew not ; I will !tad them
in paths that they have not known :
1 will make darkness light ~fore
them, and crooked things straight.
'These things wiU 1 do unto them. and
not forsake them. They shall be
turned back. they shall ~ greatly

that say to the moltm imares. Ye are
our gods.''
These verses (10-17 ) present a new
song to the. Lord. 5t"t: also Paa.lms
96 and 98. "As a result of the vision
of the Se-r-vant of Jehovah, and of His
~elatio~ship to Jehovah, the prophet
•mmedtately broke forth into a song of
confidence, in which he called upon
the whole earth to give glory to Je·
hovah. His appeal is universal. The
song must aicend from the end of
the enrth, and all must take part the«!-
in; both such as go down to the sea,
and all that is therein; both the is-
lands, and those who dwtll theTe<JII.
The wilderness, the cities, and tl\c
village& of the lands beyond the holy
land are to join in the anthem; with
the inhabitants of Sela, which is the
rock. The song is to be-that which
ascribts the &lory to Jehovah, and the
reason is that He is going forth upon
a campaign in which He wil1 be vic.
torio us over His enemie!'. Tht v.ro-
phetic word now chanres into \he

Newport Beach is in the' very odd position of having a paid
lobbyist as chairman of a citizens committee which is supposed
to give unbiased advice to the City Council. Mr. Robert Shelton,
former city manager, former city councilman, and now a lobbyist
for the Irvine Co., is chairman of our citizens committee to
study designs for the proposed Bay Bridge that would replace
the present span. He was appointed by Councilman Richard
Croul. Each of our 7 councilmen appointed one member to the
committee.
This isn't right. When a man is paid to represent the view-
point of a company, he shouldn't be expected to be without bias
in his views.
Here's some background on Mr. Shelton. After he served
here as city manager and on the Council, he became the land
management man for a big outfit witll huge land holdings in the
Santa Monica hills. After the city 0f Los Angeles spent $12
million of taxpayers' money to study the feasibility of building
a freeway along Mulholland Drive, directly to the land company~s.
holdings, Councilman Bernardi decided one day that the whole
project smelled, and convinced fellow councilmen to unanimously
scrap the whole thing.
Now, Mr. Sheiton can be seen around City Hall quite often.
He also appears frequently for the Irvine Co. in Sacramento.
Some folks say he was very active in trying to ram that ugly
Pacific Coast Freeway down our throats. Now, Irvine wants
the Coast Highway re-routed through the same old traffic cor-
ridor through Corona del Mar.
We'd better wise up. There should be a city law requiring
lobbyists to register. And a lobbyist appearing before the City
Council, or any other city agency, should have to identify him-
self as such, and publicly say who is paying him to appear. And
all lobbyists should be kept out of official or semi-official city
positions.
You can't legislate honesty, but you can use legislation to
force questionable practices out into the open . We don't need
paid lobbyists telling us what to do in City Hall. With so many
former city employees working for Irvine and hobnobbing with
our city people, Irvine should build us a new city hall free • • • • •
