Medk:are or Medicaid proJ!II ms, or whote pa-

all doctors.
There has been strong opposition raised
agaiilst PSROs from such medical associations
as the Association of American Physicians and
Surgeons, the Council of Medical Staffs, and
even the frequently liberal American Medical
Association. But most doctors arc stUI unaware
that they have a new federal boss.
In our view , control of medicine amounts to
control o f people . PSROs actually do threaten
to control medicine and they represent still
another )luge increase in the size and power of
our federal government. They will not in any
way enhance medical care and should be
repealed. If they are permitted to function,
PSROs will be most effective in speeding our
nation 10ward a completely totalitarian state.

Here are the changes Peg would make:
e TWO TERM LIMIT FOR COUNCIL MEMBERS.
e FISCAL HONESTY. WHEN ASSESSMENTS GO UP,
TAX RATES SHOULD COME DOWN TO KEEP YOUR
TAX PAYMENTS FROM INCREASING.
e SOBER, WELL-MANNERED BEHAVIOR IN COUNCIL,
WITH MORE RESPECT FOR THE RIGHTS OF THE
PUBLIC TO BE HEARD, WITHOUT BEING BROW -
BEATEN.
e BUDGET PLANNING. COUNCIL SHOULD GIVE THE
CITY MANAGER A FIGURE TO STAY WITffiN
BEFORE BUDGET PLANNING STARTS.

OK
Peg has made me keep bands off ot her campaign so far. She's
a 'pretty smart gal. She knows I can get pretty ornery. B.ut, I
said, "Now look, if you're going on the City Council, that means
I'll have to spend more time at the store, so just let me get
in my 2 cents worth."
She said it was okay, so here goes.
It Watergate has taught us anything, it is this: Don't let people
stay in power too long, don't trust politicians who accept big
donations from special interest groups. We should not let "gangs"
take over our government.
I believe we can apply those hard-learned Watergate lessons
now in our local election. The big money is ·finding its way to
certain candidates. There is a gang, of sorts, that is supporting
a slate of candidates. It's been reported that they even tried
to keep anybody from rui'Uling against one of the candidates.
This is bad news. -The intolerant behavior of some of our incum-
bent Councilmen is strangely similar to . that of the Watergate
crowd --"We know what's best, so shut up and let us run things
for you.'' Let's show 'em who's boss.
This is the year to make some changes in policies. It is the
year of the honest, down-to-earth citizen with special ability
to serve. The old-line politicos are on their way out. Costa
Mesa went that way last month. It's also the year of the woman.
Oh, these guys don't go easy. They've got support. Last time
I looked, the biggest campaign donor in town was --yep, you
guessed it a developer. Gave a bundle to Peg's opponent.
We have a Planning Commissioner running, too. He should
list himself as an incumbent and take some of the blame for the
City Hall mess. I say, let's get rid of all of them. After looking
at City Hall's 10-year budget projection, I wouldn't hire any
of that crowd for 2 bucks an hour at the store.
Just remember this when you go to the polls on April 9. Some
of .these guys are the same people you were thinking about re-
calling · · not too long ago when they consistently went against
the will of the people. I believe that some new Council members
would be more responsive. They would listen to you a lot better.
We wouldn't have to worry so much about secret votes, "private"
consultations with city consultants hired with taxpayer funds,
and the scowls and bad manners of Councilmen who don't agree
with members of the public at Council meetings.
Needless to say, I've known this gal, Peg, for quite some
time. She's been smart enough to keep me pretty much out of
trouble, and that takes a lot of doing. Anybody who knows her
will tell you she's honest, hard-working, intelligent and strong.
I could ten · you that myself, but of course I'm a little prejudiced.
One more thing. I don't see ANY of those ballot propositions
that I can completely support. I'm gonna vote NO on all of them.
After all of this is over, I'm going to get a little group together
and raise some money to buy a beautiful bronze plaque for that
lovely new police stat-ion on the hill. Donations from $1 to $10
will buy the plaque. (You've already paid through the nose for
the station.) The plaque will say "Sub-Station No. 1."
Be sure and vote now. Remember, no matter where you live
in Newport Beach, you vote for one candidate from each of the
4 districts up for grabs.
May the best woman win!
P. S. The way
must have been
the lost link.
