It was on May 30, and it was a real big day for everybody, especially school kids. An old veteran would come to our school and we would all stand up and applaud him. Nobody had to urge us to. Maybe he would remove his coat and shirt and show us where he had been shot up. It was sort of ~orpi9, b!Jt ,t,he, ~~ .. Nowadays, it's just another 3-day weekend. Las Vegas fills up. The highways are jammed with cars racing to get as far away as possible as quickly as possible. Some of them are on their way to a cemetery, too, but they don't know it. The schools don't do anything _for Memorial Day now, and I think that's why it has all got away from us. If a veteran visits a school now, he would stand more of a chance of being stoned than applauded. Ask your kid what he's learned in school about Memorial Day. Of course, wars are different now, too, and so are the veterans. A lot of them griped about being drafted, got out in 2 years without ever hearing a shot fired in anger, and now gripe about their VA check being late. It's kind of hard to get all choked up over somebody like that. Hope you got your buddy poppy from one of the nice ladies represent- ing the veterans groups. Hope you'll remember that those who went before us and ·died for us are worth remembering. Hope you'll slow down over the weekend, and be around to remember again next year. P. S. If you make the smart decision to stay home instead of joining the traffic mess for the weekend, we've got plenty of Colony Paints and other home-beautifiers from American manufacturers to make this very American weekend better for you and . :: AL f9RGIT THIIOUTHLAMD'S PIMUT • HAADWAal • COLONY PAINT~ •IMALL APPLIAMCIS e ,L ...... 81Uf1'1'Liel FO IT lltt W.IAI.IOA RVD..
