They brag about raising a lot of money for a new headquarters. Now, they're looking for a handout again. They want the taxpayers to subsidize them to the tune of about $34,000 a year so they can attract "the right kind of people" to the new hotels going up around the airport. I don't know who the "wrong" kind of people are, but I assume it's people who don't have enough money. And U they don't have any money, how are they going to stay in those big hotels? Well, maybe the hardware dealers can get the city to subsidize us, too. Then, we could attract .the "right kind of people," instead of the kids who keep coming in here wanting to use the restroom. Now, this is ridiculous. If the business community in a wealthy town like this can't afford to do its own advertising and promoting, it should close down. If I built a $5 million hotel, I'd set aside a few bucks for promoting it. And think how stupid it would make the city lode to end up helping these guys. Here we are suing the county to cut down on flights at the airport, and then turning around and spending taxpayers money to try to get more people to fly into the airport so the hotels can be kept full. And while we are finally realizing that restaurants don't have enough parking to handle the customers and employees they have NOW, we are being asked to spend money to attract more restaurant goers. . Sounds to me like what we need is "the right kind of people" to get our Chamber of Commerce straightened out. • • • • • Down at the store, we must be getting the right kind of cus~omers. They've been coming back for years. We must be 'doing something right. P. S. Do we, or don't we have insuranc,e coverage on the NeWport Pier, after the city turned down the insurance company's instructions to put a rail there? Then, we could attract the "right kind of people," instead of the kids who keep coming in here wanting to use the restroom. Now, this is ridiculous. If the business community in a wealthy town like this can't afford to do its own advertising and promoting, it should close down. If I built a $5 million hotel, I'd set aside a few bucks for promoting it. And think how stupid it would make the city lo<it to end up helping these guys. Sounds to me like what we need is "the right kind of people" to get our Chamber of Commerce straightened out. • • • • • Down at the store, we must be getting the right kind of customers. UNIVEKSAL SALVATION You cannot reconcile the doctrine of eternal hope or of universal salvation with the teadlinp of Jesus Quist and the apostles. You have to Jiwe up one or the other . I am aware of the fact thlt the man who stands founquare on the Word of God and without fear or favor preaches the Bible jUJt u it iJ pven here, is called bigoted and narrow and cruel and puritanical and all that. And they uy of a feUow who doesn't believe that JCJUJ il the Son of God, or who does not believe in eternal damn~ lion, or who preaches that everybody is going to be saved, "He il a liberal preacher." I say he is an old fool. The man who preaches the truth is your friend . I have no desire to be any more broad or liberal than Jesus -not a whit -and nobody hu that right either and claim to be a Gospel preacher. Is a man cruel who tells yOu the truth? If you summoo • doctor and he says your child has diphtheria, is that cruel? I rulh up and tell you your house is on fire and give the alarm. Am I cruel because I warn you? No, sir ! I am your best friend . Then am I cruel because I tell you there is a hell? No, sir . The man who tells you there is not a hell is the cruel man. and the man who tells you there is a hell is your friend . It is a kindness to point out the danger. God's ministers have no business to hold back the truth. What is the use of building churches and hiring preachers to preach to you if everybody is going to be saved? It doesn't appeal to any man's common sense or reason . Does that meet the highest demands of your conscience? When your conscience points out th1t you are a si nner, does it meet the highest demands of your "11Science to say : ''I know I am sinning, but God is go~ 4' He gave His Son to die"? Does that meet the hig.tlest demands of your conscience? If it does, you have a mean , low-down rotten conscience . If it meets the highest demands of your conscience to know that you are a sinner, draggina God's law beneath your feet and making God's law the excuse for your cuuedness, then you are too low-down for me. Suppose your mother, who cared for and loved you all your life , ahould ask you not to do something. You , because you know Mother loVCJ you, go ahe1.J and do just the thing she does not want you to do. Does that meet the highest demands of ' your conscience? I am not going to give you my speculations or theories or opinions. They are worth no more than any other fool's speculations, theories, or opinions. And any man who preaches his speculations, theories, or opinions is a fool. But I am going to preach the Word of God. God knows all about it and has told us a.IJ about it. One ounce of God's revelati on is worth forty million tons o f nan's speculatioN and theories. I stand before you and say : ''It's the law . You have to take 11. You can 't get around it. It's your authority." So I am not preaching anybody's speculations or theories. It 's the law . It's the only authority we have on the question. Tbat being true , listen: hell is certain for Christ-rejecting sinners; 11 IS absolutely cenain. There is a heU . No man o n God's earth can go to the Bible to fm d out what the Bible teaches about eternal .damnuioo and not stand up and preach that man will be eterna.lly damned if he doesn't repent of his si ns. The man doesn't Uve who can go to the Bible to find out what it teaches in order that he may preach what it teaches, and then not stand up and tell the people there is an eternal hell for the people who won't repent. We are certain there is 1 hell becauK Ouist say• 10, the apostles u y so, God says 10. We Ire more positive there il a hell than we are that the sun will rile tomorrow. Now, Jet 's see If we can fmd God's deRnilion of death. A lot of people seem to think that death means .total annihilation. ' Ti ten , my friends . perditi on is a place of torment in the lake of nre and brimstone. The stcond death, by the Word of God, is a place of eternal to rment for the unsaved. Those are the words God uses to describe the doom of the unsaved -perdit io n and death. Perdition is a place in the lake of fi re and brimstone fo~ver and forever . Death. Is a place in the lake of fire and brimstone. So deollh doesn·l mean annihilation at aU . It means eternal damnation, according to the Word of God. My friends, back or the fact thert i5 a hell -never mind whether the fire is lit eral o r not -back of It Is the fact that there is 1 hell and people are going to go to hell if they reject Jesus Chrin. figurative language only makes it stronger. Hell is a place of remorse . The rich man didn't take very much to hell wHh him. He didn 't take his money, but he took his memory . You will not take much with you 1f you go. I hope you won 't go. You wi ll take your memory. You won't take your money or yo ur stocks. You will remember the poor you didn't help. You will remember that you UveJ for the almighty dollar. The g.amb ler will remember that he lived to fleece people out of their money. And the seducer will remember that he lived only to rob gi rls of their honor. And Ute drunkard -God pity him will see apin and remember his home of wan t and squalor and how he Heated his wife and children. And the mu rde rer wilt again see the blood ooze as it falls fr om the wound or the one whose life he has taken. Ah, yes, you Olrist-rejecten. It will all come before you in hell. You will remember tha t you heard the preacher's voice. Hell will be a place of remorse . Over the memory of your sins, in hell you will remember. Hell IS a place of remorse and of memory . In heU you will remember the chances you had and let pul by . I teU you, hell is a place witho ut hope . Some peo~e will teU you that the word "everlasting" doesn 't mean everlasung. If he ll isn't everlasting then Heaven isn't everlasting. Then 1f eternal life IS eternal. eternal puniahment is eternal, by all the laws of common .......
