• BIG GOVERNMENT VS. FREEDOM
When election time comes around next
November, check your candidates on their
stand on two of the key Issues of the day:
big government versus personal freedom.
In one Important race --for U. S. Senate
--the two candidates are diametrically
opposed: Incumbent Alan Cranston rating
about zero and challenger Bill Richardson
scoring close to 10~ on the Issue of

THE ANIMAl PROBLEM: Due to lack of space we can onl,v br 1elly discuss
th15 question, but one important starting point must be keP.t 1n mind. namely,
i:lll th e animals fossilized or frozen .,..ere created in Adams day according to
Gen. 1. Our first example is the HORSE-fossil horses are found all over Nor1h
and South America, yet not a liv ing specimen was found in the Western Hemi-

NeiCt we consider the ancient tropi cal elephant ol Russia, now eiC!inct. yet.
they are currently found in an almost perfect state ol preservat1on along the
banks of such northward flow ing rivers as the lena, where the current by
undermining along the r~ver banks, exposes the carcas~. and where th us e1Cposed, the flesh is eaten by dogs and wolves. The Flood ts the only eKplanatiOn of
this phenomena.
A question usually comes up at this point, namely, how did th~ an imals

Secular educators have gone on record as
stating that no time in a child's life-is so im·
portant in shaping his readiness for meeting
life-problems and so fn1 itful in achieving en-
riched spiritual growth as his first three or
four years. More and more they are advocat·
ing the need for parents to lay deep and last -
ing foUndations of spiritual and educational
\·alues, and to build on that ~roundwnrk hip:h
standards. They emphasize the necessity of
creating a taste for spiritual things while a
child is still an infant in artns.
On the purely academic side, modern edu·
cators advise parents to supply their children
with the proper hooks, toys, pictures, records,
etc., so that their pre-schoolers will manifest
readiness when their school days start, in
reading, art, music, numbers, and even sci-
ence!
But they do not stop there. They recop;nize
that if a child is to receive a well -rounded
education, so that his personality and be-
havior are consistently improved, he must
have d efinite spiritual training.
Do you wonder how you can possibly give
a mere baby such training:? Without realizing
it. your character-traits and mannerisms are
mirTored in your child. If you feel that you
need more C hristian tuining yourselr, in
ordtr to set thf' right example for your child,
your church, pastor, and nursery tt•a(:hers
stand ready to help you. If you know the
Lord Jesu~ as your Saviour and are a growing
Clu;i.stian, you will find true deligbt in dir~t·
ing your child's wonder to Cod and turning
his affection toward H im. You will treat the
Bible with respect and find occasion to use
the Scripture verses, which your child i ~ hear·
ing in Sunday school, in natural situations a t
home. You will relate common things which
your child can see, hear, touch, tastt>.' or ~m('ll ,
with Cod who made the m. You will commend
your child when he does well and let him
know that he is pleasing God.
But remember that no amount of training
takes the place of example. What you are and
what you do is far more potent than what
you say. Can you say to your child, as the
Apostle Paul said to his young pastor friend,
"Hold fast the form of .JOUnd worth, wMch
thou hast heard of me. in faUh and lot>e which
is in ChM /efta"? (2 Timothy 1:13 ).

FORGIVENESS
"We have ... the forgiveness of
sins, according to the riches of
Hi s grace" IE ph. 1 :7).
The climax of Paul's first re·
corded sermon is ruched in
verses 38 and 39 of Acts 13,
where he declares:
"Be it known unto you there·
fore , men and brethren, that
through this Man is preached un·
to you the forgiveness of sins :
"And by Him all that believe
are justified from all thin115, from
which ye could not be iustified
by the law of Moses."
Thus God, through Christ,
first forgives and thereupon justi·
ties those who believe. Nor is this
all that was accompl ished for us
by the death of Christ at Calvary.
There is also.re<:onciliation, ba~
tism by the Spirit into Christ and
His Body, a position at God's
right hand in the heavenlies and
all spi ritual blessin~ there.
"The forgiveness of sins" must
come · first, t\owe"'' ·MM6 1.the1
aboyoe ~age assures us that in
Christ we have this -not blrely,
but "according to the riches of
His grace ." Indeed, the next
wne continues: "wherein He
hath abounded toward us .... "
Thus Eph. 2:2·7 declares that
though we were ''the children of
disobedience." and therefore "by
nlture. the children of wrath,"
"God, who is rich in mercy, for
His great love wherewith fole
loved us" has given us life and
raised us from the dead, exalting
us to "heavenly places in
Christ .... "
The reason for all this? "That
in the ages to come He might
show the exceeding riches of His
grace in His kindness toward us
in Christ Jesus" (Vene 7).
When God forgives us He no
longer sees us in our poor seiYes ,
but in Christ, who took our
place, dying for our sins on Cal ·
vary's cross.

The separc.tio n of the tan::! area into the present day continents occurred
some time after Noah's day as suggested by Gen. 10:25 and l Chron. 1:19 which
reads: ''THE EARTH (la nd ) WAS DIVIDED." The diviSion of man by the contusion

There's a lot of talk nowadays about political injustice --about poli-
ticians who are not doing things the way we would like for them to be
done.
But, If you'll stop and think about It a minute, Injustice means not ·
getting what you've got coming to you, and I'm afraid we'd better face
the fact that the people ARE getting what they've got coming.

. Did you vote In the last City Council election In Newport? U you didn't
or if you voted for those who won, what are you griping about? The
newspapers (at least this one) told everybody who was donating how much
money to which candidates. Do you think all of these donations are
made out of pure civic responsibility? Are you kidding ? Just like the
County Grand Jury said the other day, the politicians have their hands
out, and the people who fill those hands with money must be suspected
of having some kind of Influence. And the politician who couldn't make
a llv1ng doing anything else shouldn't be trusted to be lily white when
he's in office.

When your Council rubber stamps the biggest budget we've ever had
with hardly a murmur, who's to blame ? When they give the city manager
an extra $3,000 and other city workers get raises that will cost you
about 9 per cent more, whom do you blame for that? Do you think we
will get 9 per cent more work from the chiefs or the Indians during the
next year? Will the lights stay on longer, the garbage be picked up more
often, or 9 per cent more public toilets be built? Had enough? Limit
everybody to one term In office, all up and down the line. Do· away with
expensive campaigns trying to unseat free-spending incumbents. Since
. the 1964 City Council put a 2-term limit on planners, the commission
has Improved.
Back In 1966, If you voted, most of you voted to let legislators raise
their own pay. Are you griping now about their lucrative pension system?
U you don't want to be dealt a hand, don't complain about the rules
of the game. • • * * •
We play by one rule down at the store: Give the customer the best
product yoo can for his money, then he won't complain later.
