• "TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT"
From an unexpected source, a btgh
government official, comes this moment
of truth: "New federal flruinclal regula-
tions won't solve the current economic
crisis because the problem was brougllt
on In the first place by the burden of
too many government restrictions on
business." l'hat Is just what we con-
servatives have been saying for years,
and we welcome a new ally, Secretary
of the Interior Roger ~orton, who spoke
these words at an American Mining Con-
gress meeting last week. He Is In a
position where he can contribute more
than oratory to the much needed reform
program of getting the government off
the backs of business and Industry. • • •

When a ship Is DOl l.n use for some ttme,
it Is "de-eommlssloned." Wben returned to
duty, It Is tben recommissioned, and so wlth
the Balboa Yacht Club. Recommissioning Sept.
21 was a p.la affair with Commodore David
Lang at tbe belm, and Capt. Charles E. Faas, u. S. Navy, ~~ the formal declaration.
Capt. Josept Dtmtmo, U. S. Navy, gave the
tnvocatlon, »:nd Assemblyman Robert Badham
spoke brletly, bringing a bit of laughter
wtth some of his remarks.
It was a "just rlgbt" day for this colorful
ceremooy with stlrring music ot the U. S.
Navy Band from San Otego, and the prtvUege
of Inspecting U.e PTF hlg!l speed patrol and
rescue boat, also to take a shOrt bay tour
aboard.
Commodore Carroll Hudson dedicated the
commodore's gallery and presented a plaque
that had been discovered tn hiding, so to
speak , .. It held an tmtlSual gavel with some
lnscrtpUoa not too readable . . . but the
mystery was solved, In going over the BYC
history compiled by Jane and Wilfred Berls
••• The February-Much issue ot 1962,
stated a llllque gavel was presented Sept.
5, 1925, by H. Bay Webster. The head was
made from tbe rudder post of the old harken-
tine "Fremoot," built 1n 1851 ; the haDdle
was trom a piece ot wood carried by Harry
Pigeon on his yawl, Islander, on the famous
round the world tour, whlle the inscription
p:.ate was formed trom a 1\eavy brass pin
taken from the sh.1p Wlntleld Scott wrecked
on Anacapa Islaod ln 1852 . . . so I guess
this was recommtssloaed also.
Among those we visited wtth during the
day were Commodore Converse Wurdemann
and wUe Pearl, Mrs. CLarence Fisher, whose
busbl.nd's 1924 membership card and receipt
of $5 dues and other taterestlng Items are
tramed and oo display In tbe commodore's
gallery; also Patricia Zorn, wbose Bame
card denoted 1924 ••• Duaoe and John Reed,
tbt Ramsey Armstronp, tbe Leonard Soutbs,
Carol Ana and John Cuter, Ada Cou-::h, BUlle
Deaver, the Wllliam Dootsons, Becky aod
John Jakosk)', Bobbie and her husband, VIce-
Commodore Kenneth Ross, and the Com-
modore's wife Betty Jane Lang, plus more
members a.od guests. Many folk returned In

Lonl Jesus, which is the I"' J HE """""" ad...,. of the

ChriotiiUl, is the losdlnf
doctrinal topic of I ~
loniana. Hm it is appro-
priate to quote tM commmta of a de-
\'out student of the ScriptureS: "The
blts.Sed hope .of the cominr of the
Lord occupies a very prominent place
in this epistle. In our days we ofteii
hear the statemmt that the cominr of
our LO'!'d is an unessential doctrine.
Those who make such an a.ssertion are
ignorant of the fact that the bleued
hope is a port of the Gospel itaelf.
O.ristian preach~ and teaching
which ignor~ the blessed hope. the
cominK of the Lord, is incomplete ; it
ornits one of the most vital truths
which the Spirit of God has linkrd
with the G09pel and with the life and
~rvice of the believer. The fint epi,...
tie ~ ~t apostle wrote is an evi-
rlmce of this. r n this epistle [ 1 Thes-
saloniansl one of the greatest revela-
tions in Lhe Word of God about His
Comin_e-, is made known (4:13-18).
Tt is the epistle in which the doctrine
of the comin~ of Chri!t' is unfolded
and shown to be practically con~ed
with the Olristia.n life. Each chaptef
bt-ars witness to it ( dlao. 1 :9, 10 ;
2 ,19, 20 : 3 ,13 : 4 ,13-18 ; 5 :1-11).
Christ ian~ wait for Him ; serve in an-
riciparion of His coming when all serv-
ice will be rewarded and the servant
crowned ; His coming is the inceJtive
to a .holv life .... and when He [the
T ord Jesus 1 comes and takes His own
in clouds to meet H im in tlr a.ir, it
will brinK the unexpected judgment
for the world. The second t:Pistle r to the Thessalonians 1 gives additional
liP."ht on the' visible manife9tation of
the Lord, what wll prc:oede that day
and what is connected with it, when
He comes with His holy ~Is. 11te
fate of those who obey not the Gos-
·pel and who received not the love of
the truth is made known in the second
~istle" ( cf. A. C. Garbelein, "Fint
Thessalonians" in n., AtMOtot~d
B;bl#, 1917, Vol. lll, pp. 91, 92).
Moreovu, it is instructive to ob-
....... the ,......,.kp -.{.,oofpjtbfu"""'-
positOt'" and WTiter: ,.The belief in the
visible retum of Quist hu hem so
precious to the Church, and so much
in the thought of believers, becau!t! it
holds so prominent a place: in the New
Testament Scriptur~. It is at times
su·rprisinK to note the frequency with
which the truth is mentioned. One
careful student finds three hundred
and eightem such referencn. For in-
stance, in addition to the parables and
predictions of our Lord. we recall His
veat prophetic discour!JICs recorded in
t he twenty-fourth and the twenty-fifth
chapter of Matthew, the thirteenth of
Mark and the ~ty-first o f Luke.
We mncmber hoow the story of the
Acts opens with the Ascmsion, and
with the promise to the discipa :
'This same Jesus, which is taken up
from you into heaven, .shall so come
irl like manner as ve have seen him go
into bcavtn.' The earliest letttn
penned by the Apostle Paul, the Epis.-
tles to the Thessalonians, have the re-
rum o f Christ as the burde:n of their
message ; all his sub9equent letters add
to this testimonv, while in his Jut

Tht det.te and discussion of the subject of abor-

The rnUty of tht situation has been reponed to me
by two doctors, as well as by other penena. SUpposed-
ly, therapeutic abortions are permUted only after ap-
proval by a psychiatrist, or two psychiatrists, andre-
view by a board of directors. In reality, 1n those states
where abon lon can be authorized, psycbiatrtsts often
siJR the requests without bothertn1 to see or inter-
view thf' applicants, and the review .:lOards are not
cons ulted. One doctor, on a review board, but never
consult~. stated that he waited into his hospital one
morning to learn that ten abortions had already been
performed. Kls hospital performs very few abonlons
as compart'd to others. University and county hos-
pitals are often chief oUenders and are becomtn1
"aboNion mUis"; some religious hospitals perrorm a
lar1e number of alx>rtions also. The Invention of suc -
tion machines, which are quite cheap, have made mass
abort1ons a reality.
According to Governor Reacan Or CaiUornia, under

Well, the Hollywood comedy continues in Washington.
changed somewhat, but the act is the same.
They're talking about a 5% income tax surcharge to fight Inflation.
It's part of the WIN (whip inflation now) program. We all want to help
our new President fight this problem, but I'm afraid he's taking advice
from too many of those elbow-benders in the capitol. How in the world
can anybody talk about adding on more taxes to the already overburdened
American working man and businessman, while this stupid federal
revenue-sharing program continues!
Here's how revenue-sharing works: The feds take your money, ship
it off to Washington, hire a bunch of bureaucrats, set up a great pension
system for them, and then tell them to administer the revenue-sharing
program: After the bureaucrats have taken their cut, SOME of the money
comes back to your state, where some more bureaucrats play with It,
then down to the county, where the same thing happens. Then, maybe
the county will "hand out" some of that money as part of a regional
park system. In Newport, for example, we are going to get $200,000
of that beautiful revenue-sharing cash to help us buy a park site In
Newport Heights that we have already bought once with our gasoline
taxes. Have you ever in your life heard of anything so outrageously
stupid?
You KNOW our local politicians wouldn't have the guts to raise your
taxes that much. No, they raise phony screams about Washington taking
all of our tax money, but they're the first in line when a little bit of It
trickles back down to the bottom.
Mr •. President, we're on your side. We want to help you WIN, and
we'll pitch in with all our hearts if you will:
( 1) REDUCE TAXES by scrapping this dumb revenue-sharing.
(2) CUT PENSIONS paid to Congressmen and bureaucrats.
(3) STOP LETTING COMMITTEES RUN THE WORLD. Leaders should
make decisions, instead of turning everything ·er to a committee.
That's why we're not getting much action on the energy thing. No govern-
ment has ever been successful by letting committ.,ts run Its business.
Fire the committees and "bite the bullet" of leadership, Mr. President I
(4) STOP THE OUTFLOW ot our own money-by cutting baek drastically
on foreign aid. Why shouldn't our "friends" overseas bite the bullet
with us?
(5) REDUCE GOVERNMENT SPENDING all along the line. If we
don't do these things to WIN against inflation, we will surely Lose Our
SeU-respect and our Economy, Abbreviated, that comes out L.O.S.E.,
not W,I.N.
