I confess that I ban oo great enthusiasm for the slate on 4he ballot --but there is ooe race that deserves special comment. This is the contest tor U. s. senator. Tuesday's results will sbow oow sincere is our concern over run-away inflation, the No. 1 problem facing our nation. Here you bave a choice between incumbent Alan Cranston, ODe of the biggest spenders in all of Congress, and Btll Richardson, whose record ill the state Seoate demonstrates souOO fiscal r esponsibllity. Btll Richardson hlmself explains the issue clearly; "lf Yoters are really serious about fighting infJation, they must reject Incumbents wbo have voted for increased federal spending. Alan Cranston has been among the leading ~rs In the Senate. He should be defeated, oot because he Is a Democrat, but because he is a spender. Indeed, every Demo- crat to California who believes that lnflaUoo is a serious Issue has DO choice but to reject a senator who has so clearly established hlm self as a big spender." A Yote tor Bill Richardson is a vote against inflation. • I • • • • • A CHANCE TO VOTE AGAINST JUSTICES We •oters do oot have much to say about the members of tbe state SIC)reme Court, but the No•. 5 bi.llot does tnelOOe a Russian-style yes-no cbotce on the chief justice and 3 associate justices. Here Is a ctm.nce to show your displeasure at some of the ultra-liberal SIC)reme Court decisions. They are seeking to destroy borne rule by adding to the power of the federal government to meddle iD local alfairs. This is the prq>osition that would take away from us the right of local election to vote yes or oo on tu-sli:lstdized ID'IY rent hOusing. I have oo right to ask tupayers to pay for any of my rent; government has no obligation or right to use tu fUDds to pay my rent, or yours. This proposition, U approved, would add to our critical economic crisis by speeding 14J the already rWI -away inflation, because It would open the way tor more federal speDding for housing. This would mean more federal deficits, and a new spiral of r ising costs. It would be an act of reckless lrresponsibUity to approve thls preposition. For years now, we've been watching the Democrats and Republicans see who could do the m ost dama.Je to the country. U yot<'re n ot sick of both crowds by now, you must be a bear for puni shment. What can you do about It? Throw the bums out.. I don't care II a guy Is a Democrat, a Republican, or a member of one of the o:her parties, if he's an Incumbent, replace him with somebody else. After all, can YQII imagine having anybody worse than the gang you've got running things now ? A robot could do better. No matter what party he's in, a man who stays in office for seve,·al terms becomes part of the rotten power structure. Sure, some of these guys will say, "I didn't have anything to do with Watergate," or "I don't agr ee with Mills, Kennedy, Cranston and Mayor Daley." YcrJ KNOW that's nothing but hogwash, because these cronies have been sticking toge th er for years. The ones that have been In office longest are the heads of the committees, and they really run the congress and the legislature. For them to try to play Innocent is absolutely ridiculous. So, let's get rid of them . Forget about party lines. Forget about the big money boys who are financing the incumbents. Forget about the big daily papers and TV stations. They have too much invested In these clowns. Even the small dailies are suspect. The Costa Mesa paper went right down the line for the incumbents. Called one of them a "cracker jack." "Cracker jack," indeed! We've got 2 state representatives here In town who wouldn't even make a good joker prize In a cracker jack box. One is the darling of the big developers and the other is strictly for laughs . And too many of these guys are elbow-benders. So, don't be Jed, like a sheep to the slaughter, by the high-sounding big media boys or the billboards and TV cot;runercials bought by the big money. Sure, they ~ant to keep these jokers in office. They have Invest- ments in them. Those are THEIR BOYS. But, Isn't It about time we got our own "boys"? Don't you honestly think we can do better? Don't you think America, Call!ornia and your town deserve better leadership than we're getting? Vote out the incumbents. Throw the bums out. All of them. Al Forgit P.S. U there's anything · more useless than Cranston or Tunney, you name it. • • • • Want something you CAN depend on? Stop by the store for a look at our American-made hardware.
