At the start of a new year, it Is usually
the vogue to make predictions of coming
events. There are the so-called experts
in the foretelling field --such as "Cris-
well predicts," with his gloom and doom
views, and some bright h~es, and J eanne
Dixon, who mixes her forecasts of danger
and disaster with a Pollyanna ~tlmism
for eventual peace and progress.
The most p~ular view of things to
come Is that the world is getting better
every day in every way. and that mankind
Is Improving, and steadily advancing In
the search for peace on earth.
I have it on highest· authority that
this Is not so, and also that none of
these soothsayers can rightfully claim
the title of prophet. The Good Book
spells out very c learly the credentials
of a true pr~het; he has to live up to
just one simple rule: he can't make a
single mistake in his prophesying. None
of the present-day crystal ·gazers can

Wld the Bible are ruled out of our tax-:
supported schools. There is no place
for our Lord and His Word in the de-
liberations at the United Nations, called
by some the last best h~e on earth.
God is love, but there is empty lalk
of loving our brother without any acknow-
ledgment of our Father in Heaven. There
is endless lip service to the cause of
peace, but a lack of commitment t o
the Prince of Peace.
Far from assuring us that the world
is getting better and better, the Bible
warns that perilous times shall come,
"for men shall be l overs of their own
selves, covetous, boasters, proud, plas-
phemers, disobedient to parents, un-
thankful, wlholy ... lovers of pleasure
more than lovers of God." Our Lord
tells of the signs that point to the coming
of the end: wars and rumors of wars,
nation rising against nation, famines,
pestilences, earthquakes, and many false
pr~hets, deceiving many.
One of these false prophets will gain
such prominence and fame that ·he will
be acclaimed as saviour, and an apostate
world will turn to him in worship and
accord him all honor and power. He
will Indeed bring peace to all nations,
' because he will become the dictator
of the whole world, claiming both secular
and spiritual authority over all pe~les.
Then will come the time of the Great
Tribulation, threatening total destruc-
tion to all that dwell on the earth.
This Is no Jeanne Dixon fantasy, or
Criswell caper. Bible students are
familiar with 'these predictions from
their study of Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel,
Matthew, Thessalonians and Revelation.
They loolt for the coming of our Lord,
and for new .beavens and a new earth,
wherein ctweUeth rigbteousnesa. Ollly
tben, when the false prq,het and h1B
'followers are put a-y, will there be
peace . 0o earth,' under tbe rule of the
Prince ol Peace and the S.viour at
tbe world. Amen. Even eo, come Lord

MONEY MISHANDLERS
I think it's about time we hired somebodt down at City Hall wbo knows how
to count.
Maybe they're using "new math" or something. But, it looks more lJke mathe-
matical madness. Consider these facts:
1. Arter a $300,000 "rainy day" IW>d was squandered. a lew years back, and
nobody seemed to know where it went, we tigured the money boys would be a
'little more careful, but --
Z, We're about to blow another rainy day nest egg because the city 11_\3..nager
and his finance director evidently couldn't put Z and Z together and figure that,
in the middle of a building slump, excise taxes collected from bUilders would
be leSS·,
3. Now, you and I, i.f we end up making less money than we tbougbt, we find
a way to spend less. We sure as heck wouldn't dip into our savings just before
a depression, would we? Not unless we had an emergency. And l don't see any
such emergency right now.
4, To compound the numbers nonsense, the city manager figured last week
that (a) only 38,000 people use our beaches on a peak day and (b) half or th em
Uve here. That's too ridiculous to even comment on. ,
For the past 2 years, this column has been warning of tough timeS ahead.
Yet, instead of tightening !he city belt, our City Hall spenders,kj!ep spending
more and more. This could lead to disaster. What happens if we ~Ye a real
emergency? ·
They sold the old city dump, a prime piece of property, lo_ build a new police
"sub-statloo," and to put a lew bucks in our rainy-day lund. (Have yoo noticed
how much better the police service is with the new "sub-sta.Uoc"?)
Well, what do we sell next, after we blow the second rainy-day reserve? Not
much good property left to sell, is there?
