No. 2 bridge plan put off
The idea ora second Upper
Bay highway and bridge
crosslog was placed on the
back borner Monday by New-
port City Councllman Paul
Ryckoff. But, he promised
to bring up the controversial
matter again.
During a Monday alternoon
Council discussion of Coost

Ryckoff suggested a second
hJghway, )lst north or the
existing Coast Hwy ., from
Jamboree Rd. 1o the bay,
ud a bridge connecting the
road with the Westclllfarea.
''The ncant land 1s
there," he told the Council,
"&Dd l don't think the place-

would affect the residents
too much."
But, Corona Highlands
Councilman John store, who
heads the CouncU's e.tforts
to replace the present Coast

d lscusslon of another bridge
at Westcllff "mlghi further
delay construction of the

* STOP THE UNELECTED RULERS
The ooly effective way to stop thet
attack oo property ownership that Is being:
waged by the coastal cootrol CWllnis-·
slons Is to do away with the CWllniSSioos•
by a vote of the people of California ..
Certainly a majority of voters must
by now realize the fateful error made
when they approved Proposltloo 20, which
created a new layer of government,
vested In unelected officials who are
overthrowing local laws and ordinances,
and creating unemployment by lnvnklng
restrictions oo our all-important build-
Ing industry.
Petitions are being circulated calling
for an end to the coastal ccmmlssioos
because they are usurping land use
control !rem local and county govern-
ments. The next step is to collect a
sufficient number of signatures to place
a repeal proposition oo the ballot for
a new decision by the voters. • • • • * A CROWN IN HEAVEN
It Is said that the angels In heaven
rejoice whenever a soul Is saved oo
earth. And so it was that constant re-
joicing sounded tn heaven during the
ministry of Paul G. Neumann, founder
and long-time pastor of the First Baptist
Church of Costa Mesa. Only the record
in the Book of Life can tell of the
multitudes that Pastor Neumann brought
to the saving knowledge of our Lord
Jesus Christ, and other multitudes that
he strengthened In the faith through
his preaching of the gospel of Christ,
which Is the power of God unto salva-
tion. The·re are many of us who grieve
at the passing of a personal friend,
but we realize that truly there Is no
sorrow or tragedy, because Paul Neu-
mann says with Paul the Apostle, "absent
frcm the body and present with the
Lord," knowing for a certainty that
there Is a crown laid up in heaven
for both, a reward for these good and
faithful servants of the Lord.

In th@ Greek language this slxth word of our Lord

All the words of Chris t spoken from the Cross are
concise and compre hensive. Thf'y cov('r the whole Gospel

HYPOGLYCEMIA
Br DR. GARY COUTURE, D.C. I
"But Doctor, If I have
low blood sugar, shouldn 't
I be able to eat all the
suga r I want?"
This question Is ofteu
asked by patients who have
just learned that they have
hypoglycemia, but aren't yet
aware of Its rut! lmpllca-
tlons. As mu ch as I would
like to tell them yes, the
answer Is no. To u!lderstand
why tl\is is so, we must
look at jlst what hypogly-
cemia Is.
Basically, It Is an over-
secretion of insulin by the
pancreas. This surplus in-
sulin means that people wtth
hyplglyceml.a convert their
food to energy much more
quickly than oormal.
F'or this reason, frequent
feedings are necessary. The
diet should generally be high
In fats and protein (slow
conversion to energy) and
low In carbohydrates (last
conver skxl to energy). Ob-
viou sly, a diet high In sugar
content would )Jst compound
the problem by being con-
verted to glucose and
''burned trp'' in the form
Jf energy even more rapidly.
Hypoglyeem~ ean . make

WhUe the term "low blood

is not the case. The Idea
is to maintain a healthy blood

Today is a big rtay for the old village. Counc ilwoman Lucille Kuehn is go ing to
talk to the Corona del Mar Cham ber of Commerce about (•preserving the village
con cept.''
Oh boy, Lu cy should have some very inte resting things to say, She's a r eal expert
on villages. F'o r in s tance, the old v111a ge on Lido Peninsula will never be the same,
now that Lucy and 3 other Councilmen voted to turn it into a nice, cozy commercial
area full of of!ice buildings, asphalt and stores. And, the nice little village street
that runs onto the peninsula will look very quaint when all of the village Idiots try
to drive on and off the peninsula at the same time.
And, then there's the ntce little v1llage highwa y whlch Lucy thinks should be a lot
wider so more tourists can bump into each other as they c ruise through our sleepy
little burg. Lucy is determined to do something about our traffic mess. What she's
determined to do is make it a bigger mess by making room for more cars.
or course, all villages really need to have some strings attached from Washington,
just In case the local yo kels don't know how to run their town. That's why Lucy
voted to grab thai bag ol money belng dangled by the Houslng and Urban Development
fellows . We are told there are no strings attached. That it's '•our '' money to spend
as we please. But, if that's true, I wond er why our village ts waiting for "approval"
from the county, the regional governm~nt and the fed eral government. If there are
no stri..ngs, why don't they just send us our money? '
Our village American Legion Post must feel like they are really a big-city outfit
aner Luc y and the other Council members finished wlth them. I doUbt lf the Legton
Ln New York City pays as mu ch ''protection'' as our own boys are being askel't to
shell out to the local vtltage treasury.
So, you folks in Corona del Mar should pay particular attention to Lu cy today.
lf her past year•s performance in our vlllage "town hall" Is any lndicaUon, maybe
Lucy w1U come up with some great new ideas for Corona del Mar, sucb as:
A VILLAGE BYPASS (blg-clly gu ys call them lreeways) lo run rlghl smack through
the middle of your part of town,
A VILLAGE TENNIS CENTER, wUh plenly ol brlght night llghls, and a big parklng
lol, so loll<s !rom ~ll around can come to our vlllage lo play tennis day and olght.
There ls already a proposal to build suc h a center near the corner of MacArthur
and Coast Hwy. Ask LIJCY aboiJt u.
A VILLAGE PARK !hal would make IDsplratlon Polnl slalo park a little bluer,
and atlract some more Oalland vlsllors ID our village beach, Arr you In !lavor ol
that, Lucy? .
By !he way, I w•nl to thank everybody for tholr Interest ID our offorta to keep tbe
city !rom rlpptnc otf tho local Am.,lcan Lec!oo Post. Did the city Intimidate the
Leilon by flrat threat .. tilc to oot renew tho lease at all? Is Marloapark colttnc !be
same rpugh treatm .. t? Til•• why not Lido Isle and all the other lessees ol city
tidelands? Just asklnc. ·
