Supervisor Thomas Riley seems to
be in need of s ome financial counsel-
ing, because he has been ~autioued
that his spending may go over his al-
lotted budget. That's not his only short-
coming; he also needs a few basic
lessons in his handling of news re-
leases to newspapers. Last Friday's
mail call at the Ensign office brought
a letter fr om our supervisor announc-
ing his intention to seek re-election
next June. The 5 page announcement
said "for r e l ease May 15." Unfortun-
ately, it arrived May 16, and the news
had already been headlined in the daily
papers. Will someone please tell the
retired general that this is no wa y
to make friends with the loc al news-
paper ? Either he doesn't kn ow any bet-
ter, or perhaps he just doesn't c ar ~.
We'll be happy to r eciprocate.

the Bible ia divine, where we han the

can't 10mething ebc: be divine?
Mc!Nnu: The answer, sir, is the
one I pvc: you in the beginning. Chris-
tianity il the only religion that has a
Saviour who opened the tomb, who
came out of the g-rave. Mohammed is
dead. Confucius is dead. These men
are ashes in the dust of the ground.
Only Jesus Christ has opened the
tomb. He said, "J am the resurrection
and the life: he that believeth in me'
though he were dead, yet shall he live;
and whosoever liveth and believeth in
mt shall never die." And, sir you

what happened -ChriJt died, He I"OK

and that is called good news, and that
is what we call the Gotpd, air.
QuESTION: I know, but history is
only an interpretation bued on what
we perceive of the past from evidence
we can gather now. Why is that? Why
do you believe, you believe that that
actually happened, that it is irrevoca·
ble because it was God given. But the
only reason you believe it wu God
given is because it was written and -
MciNTIU: WeU, ~ir, you ltated it

which you and I would cal] history.

MciNnu: No, no, don't say that.

O'HAta : It i1.
MciNTla£: We come and proclaim
something which took place in his--
tory, and it is going to affed you now
by giving you a new nature.. "If any
man be in Christ, he is a new creature;
ol~ things are passed away ; behold, all
things are become new." And it is
out or that newness of life and new-
ness of mind that I am speakinr t~
night; and Mrs. O'Hair cannot under·
stand me. She lives in a differtnt
world. I am trying to get her to un·
derstand that my world is real. My
world exttnds to aU eternity and a
blessed and glorious deliverance.
There is to be a -raurtcdion~ I am
going to have a new body. This hand
isn't just going to go back to dust. It
is going to be raised again. And ] will
have a body like the body Jesus had
when He was raised from the dead.
Now this is the news that has been
preached. It is good news to every
man who is hungry for righteousness
and has a yeaminK in his soul for God
and who will recogniu that he ia a
sinner. (Continued next WMir.)

Where the Elite Meet to Eat!
ARE WE
A MIRAGE?
One or these days, somebody is going to draw up a new map or Newport Beach
with a blank spot where Central Newport should be. Why? Because this part of
town, sometimes called Old Newport, Ia the section that tho politicians have for-
gotten. We're )1st a mlrage. We don't really exist.
Down at City Hall, we have Mayor Mcinnis to represent West Newport, Mr. Dos-
tal for the Westclltf-Oover Shores area, Mr. Ryckoff taking care of Balboa Island,
Mr. Rogers representing the Peninsula Polnt group, Mr. Store for the Irvine Co.
lands 1n the newer parts of Corona del Mar, Mrs. Kuehn for Newport Center and
the trafflc buffs, and Mr. Barrett for God knows who,
But, Old Newport, which ls really tho heart of our town and the seed !rom whlch
It grew, Is lett out ln the cold. Or, I sbould say, out ln the tratflc, City Hall keeps
jammlng Central Newport with more restaurants and stores, without insisting that
the proprietors provide enough parking for employees and customers.
A favored few get some help. The boatyard over on Newport and 26th gets the
street-end of 26th made lnto a nice parking lot for Its customers and boats, And
Ooo Koll, who has been generous ln donating to local polltlcal campaigns, even gets
a blg parking lot, already paid lor once by state gas taxpayers, rented for hlm
by clty taxpayers. Why don't Mr. Ryckoff and Mr. Rogers, who fought so hard to
get that lot lor Koll, inslst now that Mr. Koll pay the monthly rent? You can't charge
the seagulls, and they're the only ones using the lot.
Whatever happened to our parking ·meter fUnd, which was suwosed to be used
to provide more ott-street parking? Why can't some or that money be used to get
parking lor Old Newport? Why can't the end of 32nd St. be used lor !hal purpose?
Maybe the liquor-license oolders of Old Newport are afrald to ask City Hall any
questions. Well, I'm not afrald. We need some parking NOW lor the swarms of
new employees that are being hlred by the new bUsinesses that City Hall permits.
And, Instead of golng lnto tbe business of selling public parking meters to local
merchants, why doesn't Ctty Hall hire some more meter maidS, who would more
than pay their own way, besldes helping our parking mess?
Does the pollee chlef have tlme to worry about this problem? No, He's too busy
playing with his helicopter, or trying to build a blgger emplre by taking over the
harbor patrol, He should learn to run the emplre be's already got. The chlel says
there's great cooperation between the pollee and the harbor patrol. Then, why dld
a harbor patrolman tell me he knew nothing about my boat being burglarized? The
pollee knew, because I reported It to them,
I'll toll you how attentive the chief ts to his empire. After an out-of-town poll-
tlclan broke tbe law by pasting the town with slgns telling of hls great leadership,
our pollee did nothing untll Costa Mesa's planning director soowed the ny by tear-
Ing tbe slgns down ln Costa Mesa.
If we can't get some representation here ln Central Newport, I suggest we-change
to a neighborhood political system. Wo lalk about hoW Newport ls a town of separate
communities. Okay, lot's have reprosontattves elected by loose separate communi-
ties, so everybody gets a fair shake.
Then, we should limit everybody to 2 terms. Maybe, then, we could get some re-
pre-'tltlon for some of tbe Ignored communities, such as Old Newport, old Corona
del Mar. and Newport Helgbts.
We should let the City Hall boy• liMw that, unless lbey put us back on .lhe map,
we would like to wlpa lhom ott tho map at tbe noll election, lt we can flnd some-
body to buck the system and run against them. ·
