It would be rather ironica l if a con-
vincing argument against fluoridation
would come from one of the darlings
of the do-gooder s, the U. S. Envlroo-
mental Protection Agency . EPA has
reported that it has found inadequate
equipment, maintenance, operator train-
Ing and surv--dlance in all the s tates
It surveyed. This points up one of the
m ost s erious problems with putting flu o-
ride in drinking water. The quantity
cannot be adequately controlled. There
Is glib talk about the carefully coo-
trolled and safe am ount of one part of
fluoride t o one million parts of water.
However, Dr. t\rthur Ford, former New
York Cit y water commissioner, says,
"No one kn ows what concentration will
reach a ll householders, except that It
will be different all over the city."
Some people may drink just the right
am ount of water containing this curnu-
lattve polson; but what of the persoos
wh o drink 8 or 12 or 20 glasses daily!
Perhaps the possible threat t o the
health of people will not stop the do-
gooders' flu oridation mania. But -naybe
they will sit up and take notice when
they hear of the costly expense of other
side efiects. The "Ask Anybody Any-
thing" column In a recent Issue of the
Santa Ana R"glster ofiered this coo-
vlncer: "We are not yet sure what
fluoride does to people. But one thing
Is certain: It Is terribly corrosive to
!roo pipes. In Riverhead, Long lllland,

that you use in order to judp: whether
an act is good or evil? '
O'lLuo: I think that wt' bave to
reaort to those two thinp which han
been 10 abuted by religion. Ooc ia
human reason and two i1 cocnmoll
sense. Wr know tho.e things that we
ahould not do, and we know thole
things that we should do jUJt from
being human beings in a humaa com4
munity. For instance, we have DO
difficulty at all seeing that 6fe iJ ell·

well life is so very important thet we
must ~ in thert; and kiD one another
in order to preserve it. And thac. are
the things that I think that you Jet: in
with your questions, and we 1pht im4
mediately on this. For instance, I am
a woman. and how dare anybody teU
me I can or cannot have a baby, or I
an or cannot have an abortion. Be-
cau.w some man aomc. 1-•la.ce hal rpade a
law in respect to this, or aome person
.sitting in a foreign place will say
something in relationship to mora.lity
and birth. I am going to use, No. 1,
my common sense, my reason, and the
fact that J am a woman filled with
iovc in order to tFy to do tomdhing
in a situation such as that. I think that
it I!""S a little bit· beyond situational
ethics because in respect to thit one
also must use (1) reason ; (2) com.

MciNTIRE : I think I can make a
re-ply to that briefly. In the first place,
Mrs. O 'Hair, human life does not be-
long to you. It belongs to God. God
has placed the price on it, it ia sancti-
fied in His sight, and the life of one
human soul was so precious that He
gave His Son to rukem man. The
Bible puts a very, very high price upon
human life, and it is not youra or mine

call it. In the RCOnd place there it

ENERGY RIP OFF
Suppose you go into a bar and the bartender keeps shoving drinks at you and you
get so bombed you can't see. Then, yru go out, get in your car, drive off into the
night and kill yourself. The courts haie said that the bar can be held responsible.
We ll, I've got another proposition !or you, Let's say my wlfe is driving our high-
powe red car, geared to go more than twice the legal speed limit. She has a fatal
accident, and the poJlce blame excessive speed, Can 1 sue the outfit that made the
car?
Now, nolx>dy says a drunk has to buy another drink, and nobody is forcing me to
buy a high-powered ca r. But, the entice ment is there, and 1t is pushed at us with
every trick and gimmick known to the advertising trade. OUr political leaders even
officially urge us to buy American cars. And the result is that America has become
addicted to speed and power iri cars the same way a drunk becomes addicted to booze.
Hollywood couldn't write a whodunntt that would disguise 'the villain any more
than the high-pow ered car has been disguised as the real villian in our highway
slaughter, our stupid over-use of petroleum, and our economic dependence on Detroit's
plaMed obsolescence.
The politicians, of course, don't have the guts to lace the facts. They blame It on
the Arabs, the depletion allowance, or the shortage or energy. THERE IS NO SHORT.
AGE OF ENERGY . There is only a stupid mis-use of what we have.
We used to lau gh at the little VW bug chugging uphlllln 2nd gear. Have you noti ced
lately that the bug is laughing back at us?
Detroit's idiocy ha s driven the American dollar overseas Ln search of a sensible
automobile, Our own car-makers kept ignoring th e competition, saying our cars were
