when ooe Council member Is at band

Ing. U there were a coospiracy to
benefit a developer, certainly a far
more clever ruse could be devised.
I must coofess lukewarm lnsplratloo
In defending our City Council members,
who could be deserving of more solid
support If they were to demoostrate
the pioneer spirit of self reliance, rather
than scrambling Into the federal trough
for those "free" handouts that are sure
to enslave us In the end. ETen so,
the American spirit of fair play still
must prevail: Give them a fair hearing,
and (as the famous saying goes) then
hang 'em.

• SHE'S NOT OUR "FIRST LADY"
I have loog since dissociated myself
!rem any sympathy with the moral pro-
nouncements of our so-called first lady,
Betty Ford. My disenchantment grew
with her praise of the Supreme Court
declsloo favoring the murder Of unborn
chlldrlln by aborttcn, and also wtth her
endorsement of the so-called equal right&
amen<~~nent, which would take American
wcmanhood off the pedestal of esteem
held during the past 2 centuries. Now
she fails to take a stroog moral stand
on the subject of pre-marital affairs,
even when it might Involve her own
daughter. If it Is a "meaningfUl rela-
tionship," then It could be all right
with Mrs. Ford. We expect better moral
guidance and example from the wife
of our president, as we do frcm all
respooslble citizens. • • • •
• "A PHONY CONSERVATIVE"
Assemblyman Robert Burke of Hunt-
ingtoo Beach reports: "The disclosure
that Governor Jerry Brown has endorsed
a proposal to Increase payroll taxes
by nearly $600 million should certainly
dlspell any doubts as to what the gov-
ernor's real Intentions are. Shortly after
assuming the duties of governor, Brown
uttered his now famous aUlrmatloo:
'There will not be a general tax Increase.'
Governor Brown's approval of this $600
million measure Is solid proof of his
phooy cooservatlsm. I am opposed to
this hld<ien tax Increase, and I hope
you will be motivated to express your
oposltlon to this legislatloo (AB 91 ).''
• • • * • COST OF FEDERAL CONTROLS

ports: "Latest estimate& put the coat

Without any question. it
waa necessary for the genera-

the human race wOuld have

than at any time since it took power in R ussia in
1917. The Moratoriums October I 5 and 'the
March Against Death, "The Vietnam Memorial,"
November 13, 14 and IS, 1969, brought in to the
open the Communist deter mination to have the
United States do what Hanoi has demanded; in
fact the call of the Communists 1s: Withdraw illl-
mcdiatcly and surren<k:r fully in Vietnam. The
Black Manifesto, which called the United States
the most barbaric nation on the earth, imperialist,
racist, demanding the overthrow of the American
society, was Communist. The New Mobilization
Committee says that '"the American society is a
death machine.'" With Communist assaults coming
out oi the colleges, the churches, mass communica~
tions in the United States, the Com munists have
thrown off all masks and have openly demanded
that we do what they require in order to have
peace.
The difficult y 1s that a whole generation has
bttn reared on the line that Communism is bene-
ficial to humanity, it is changing for the better,
and that the road to peace has actually been
blazed in our troubled world by the Communists.
The evils o f Communism remain the same. The
nature of Communism, its determination to con-
quer the world for socialism remains the same.
The evil nature of Communism determine£
everything that the Communists arc presently
doing.
Communism Denies God
Communism denies God. There is no basis
therefore for morality, integrity, no respect for
man as a creature of God. T he fi rst and greatest
evil of Communi sm is its militant atheism, a nd
all of its other positions a nd actions flow fro m
this rejection o f God. Communism has taken
the place of God. It believes it has a right to
require from man what man was designed to
.give to God.

Communism rejects the monllaw, the law of
God. There are no Teo CpmmaDclmeota. Then
is no basil for order other than that which the
Co1nmunists themaelves decru. It ia a tyttem
that is wicked to the core, satanic. It glorifies
slavery and makes tyranny a bleuing. It io only
in recent years that the CommwUit propepnda,

Communitm denies all freedom to man. Free
opeech, freedom of the praa, freedom of the
radio, the free e:xerciae of rdigion, all of these
things, loved and chttithed in the western world,
are unknown in Communist countriea. But in
the constitutiont that have been adopted and
under which the one-party covemment proceedo
to praent itlclf for propopnda purposa, there
is talk of freedom. That it freedom from hun~
