There was no sudden moment of

At present there are physical lim-
itations to what we can do. For ex-
ample, it is a common understand-
ing that the ultimate in velocity is
the speed of light. If that under-
standing is correct, then 186,000
miles a second is u fut as we can
ever travel. When we look at the
distances between here and some of
the galaxies in outer space, we re-
alize that even at that fantastic
speed of travel, man just couldn't
live long enough to begin to scratch
the universe.

Either we will have to find BOrne-
thing much faster than the speed
of light-which could be---or we
will have to find a way to make
man live much longer than he now
lives, or some combination of both.
In the consideratKm of v~ 2·5
which present the message of ~
Lord's love for His cho1en people,
lsrad, a BiblcaJ expositor writes ttw:
foiiO¥r.·ing: "The Rf'OUnd of His (Je-

His deal ings with them [His people),

all the comfort and promise, that
Malachi if commission~ to convey, is
lhe lo\'t' which Jehovah ha.s eVtt had
for His pe-ople. The proof of His
lnve. if they demand it. is to~ found
in the contrast between t~ir own h is-
tory and the history of another na-
tion, allied to them by the closest ties
of anc.cstory and blood. From twin
brothers, alik~ toni of Isaac and of
Abn.ham, Israel and Edom had
sprung. Yet of Israel's history the
brief but pregnant summary is, I lowd
J~ob; whereas on' Edom'a history, in
the daolation and ruin of his coun·
try and the hopeless failure of his ef.
forta to mum and restore (as -Israel
had done afttt his captivity in Baby·

For from the rising of the sun even
unto the going down of the same my

be offered unto my name. and a pure

that ye say, The table of the Lord is

I am not saying that there are
physical laws t hat will stop man in
his space travel, because I don't
know if there are. I am saying that
he will have t.o discover something,
not that enables him to overcome
the laws of nature, but that teaches
him to live creatively within them.
In threescore years and ten, even
at the speed nf light, one can only
travel so fa r .
Contrary to popular belief, scien-
tists do not prove everything; if
they tried to do so they would never
become current. Scie.ntiste accept
the bulk of information compiled
in the centuries before them by
othe r scientists, and build from
there. The Christian does the same
thing. He accepts by faith what .hu
been revealed to him. But there is
one difference : the scientiftc foun-
dation may be proved wrotig, but
the underpinning of the Christian
Jife, the revealed Word of God, is
never wrong.
One of the most fascinating
things about being a Christian ia
the challeJlR W discipline one's life.
