Who speaks for the small business owner in Costa Mesa? His outcry is being drowned out by the enthusiasm for phasing· out signs that are not up to city sign law restrictions. Some complaints have surfaced briefly; there have been protests over financial injury from 14amortization.'' A business sign, after all, is just as much personal property as a desk in a business office, Taking away that sign withC'ut compen- sation is an act of confiscation, just as much as taking away the desk would be, The plain language of our U.S. Constitution forbids such action, even in the name of beautification. The American Gas Associa· tion has stressed the amazin1 fa ct that there has never in our nation's hiri.ory been an effec- tive incentive to esplore for nat· ural ga11. Price controls are the majm reason why. When a pro- ducer cannot charge enough to finance costly exploration fmd expensive production equipment, he turns his attention elsewhere. Even the pemment't own retelf'thers bavt arrived at t similar conclusion. Latt January seventy spedal'-ta (rom the federal EneriY Rnearch and Development Adrni'niltrati~n were commiMioned to study our nation'• natural 111 potential. He is sponsor- ing an initiative which would allow school boards to ref4se employment to tea- chers who are openly homosexual or who publicly advocate homosexuality. There are charges of unfair discri- mination and denil\1 of c ivil rights. But the homo , or lesbian, or any other sexual deviate will suffe r no loss of rights if that deviation is suppressed by self-discipline. A person with a lust for sex will not be punished unless that lust leads t o assault. Someone who is a thief at heart will not be arre sted unless theft is committed. The campa- rison is not unfair, because one who m olests a child is a thief, or worse. Childre n are the target. P.lready there have been attempts by hom os to ob- tain legal approv?J for child adoption. That is a logical step in the homo campaign for public acceptance; they can't have c hildren, s o they must re- cruit. The sc hool is an obvious loca- tion for r ecruitment. A s ordid example of the campaign on TV t o gain sympathy and acceptanc e for homos was the CBS Channel 2 show, "Alice," presented on prime time a week ago Saturday night. A homosexual's persuasive pleading won over t!le reluc- tance of the mother, and her young son was allowed to go on an over-night fishing trip with the homo. Your chil- dren are the target. And the campaign will gr ow bolder, unless there are enough parents who will raise their voices in prote st. Or, perhaps more effective- ly, take pen in hand and put your pro- test in writing --to CBS, and t o the 11 Alice" show sponsors. HORSES OF DIFFERENT COLORS I see where Yorba Linda has become the llrst city in the county to decide to license horses. Now, ain't that ~st grand? The politicians want to control every. thing. AU things on earth must be licensed, inspected, tested, limited, restricted or prohibited. Where will it all end? I've got an idea. Let's license the politicians, the same way they license horses. We've got a wonderful collection of muleheads, old nags, plowhorses, flighty flllies, skittish colts, and just plain jackasses. Danged few thoroughbreds, though. One good thing about the jackass: he's like a homosexual -can't reproduce his own ldnd, thank God. U we get this strange breed under strict control maybe we can breed out some of tbe bad traits. Some of these guys are swaybacked from being ridden by so many jockeys. Others suffer horribly from hoof-in-mouth disease. Then, there's the special breed that can't seem to move at all without blinders on. They plck out one spot on the horizon and gallop lull tilt toward it, no matter what's going on around them. But there's one thing you can say for this entire breed • they always find their way to the public trough. And, boy, can they eatl When election time comes, you really find out some odd things about these crea- tures; they're able to whinny out of both sides of their mouth at once. And they can straddle the tallest fences without hurting themselves! It's really difficult to handicap these nags, because you ne ver know for sure how much extra weight they 've got hidden away in thei r saddlebags. In fact, it's hard to be sure who the owners are, untll alter the election. Then, they come for- ward very timidly and collect their winnings, ' , There are always a few dark horses around, of cour se. They're waJtlng for the froot-z:unners to stumble, collapse, or go off somewhere else to ru~ tn a bigger, richer race. Some of these old warhorses seem to "1" amazingly fast when their fee<l>ags get filled with the right stuff. . _,_, Politicians are like horses in other ways, too. F..9r eumple, a mule Is much smarter than a horse. When a mule Is all worn out from too much time In bar- ness, It just stops. No amount of coaxtng, beating, screaming or cussing can get It to go ap.ln. It has sense enough to tmow when It's time to quit. A horse, on the other band, will keep going unW he destroys hlmsell -or somebody does It for him. No, ain't that just like a polltlclan? ~ ' So, let's round these c ritters up, got 'em branded, chej:k-'thei~ teeth, aod make tbem buy licenses. JUIIt one pnlblem I baYen't figured out yet. Wbicb end do we band the lieanse plates on? AI Forglt We don't ba•e 1UQ' horseeollars down at tbe store, but we'•• got some rrlloYela to help JOQ cloen up ·beblllll the critters. Art these books actually suppo~d to be port of the Bi?ft? What about Revelation 22: 18? A. This passage immediately refers to the book of Revelation, but it is also applicable to the rest of Scripture as well. No one is to add o r to take away from this Bible. White there are some people and groups who believe that the apocrypha are a part of Holy Writ there is no va lid evidence to support such a view . These are books that came between Malac hi and Matthe w, but which were not recognized by the Jews or the early church fathers. The name itself means "hidden books". They a re not of the same absolute authority and inspiration by any manner. Some very beautiful thoughts and historical material may be contained but that is not a guarantee of inspiration. Q . s~n Jose, Calif. "I have ·several questions on Isaiah 19:17-25. Could this have reference to the time of the brief few days war between ls- ral and Egypt in June 7967? Do the live cities mentioned in verse 18 still exist? What is the language of Canaan? Will these la st verses be fulfilled soon? Do you think we will see it, or will it happen after the Lo rd comes. Also, who are the Assyrians today?" A. From the 13th chapter of Isaiah through the 23rd, the prophet in- dicates judgments concerning the nations. Then it gets broader as in verses 24 through 27. We find the whole world reeling and stagger- ing like a drunke n man. The proph- et, in a very fine succession of log- ical steps, gives the judgment of God agains t si n. This is both among His own peo ple Is ra e l as well as the nations. W e believe the 19th chapter is yet to be fulfilled a lthough we have seen fo reshad- o w s of that coming hour of con- flagration. This will have a more complete and ample fulfillment in days that lie just ahead. We should not restrict verse 17 to one event for the re would be numerous ap- plications. As to thm e f1 ve ci ties 11 is Inter- esting that they are not men- tioned. God always has a purpose for what He does. Doubtless these DR. CHULfS FEIHBUG DR. Re- member that the making of differ- ences in language came as a judg- m e nt upo n man (Gen. 11 ). Then you ask if we think this will happen soon. That little ad- verb has many ramifications. It all depe nds on o ne's viewpoint. With- out question we are getting near- e r to the culmination of a ll things. We are much nearer to the e nd than most realize. In both cases the apostle had to speak out to defend the purity of "the gospel of the grace of GOd." In verses 4 and 5 he refers to his contest with those at Jeru- sale m who would have brought the Gentile believers under the taw of Mcnes. Among them were "false brethren," he says, "un- awares bfought in ... to spy out our liberty whdl we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us mto bondage. Unto whom we g.ve pl.ce by subjection, no, not fOf an hour. that the truth of the gospel might continue with you." In the second case he refers to a controversy with Peter who, having enjoyed bleued fellow· ship with Gentile Christians had been intimidated by some of h is Jewish bfethren into separating himself from the Gentiles. Con· cerning this, Paul writes: "But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face be- cause ha was to be blamed" (Ver. 11 ).
