• WHO PAYS THE BILL ?
'A news release from the Industry
Ellvironmental CoWJcil In Los Angeles ' exposes a despairing lack of the eco-
nOmic facts of life. The news item
e~ols the recently enacted state law
on litter control, which is expected to
raise $1'7-18 million annually. Then
comes the kicker: "The money is col-
lected from business and industry --
and not from the pockets of the tax-
paying citizens.".

• SOCIALISM OR CAPITALISM ?
The same !iOes for President Jimmy
Carter, who BOWlds off more and more
like a socialist demagogue. He, too,
co]lld spend some brush-up time in
economics classes. When he saw his
so-called energy savin& program pretty
well scuttled in the Senate, he SOWlded
off against oil companies, charging "the
biggest rip-off In history" and citing
"potential war profiteering."
It's the Carter energy package that's
the real rip-off against the U. S. tax-
payer. Its tremendous cost would add
to our already back-breaking tax bur-
den, would feed the already bloated
federal bureaucracy, and would stifle
private enterprise efforts to solve the
energy crisis,
"Profits" must be a dirty word for
President Carter --even though that
word is the secret to the tremendous
productivity of capitalism and the re-
sulting high standard or living --while
the profit-less socialist nations through-
out the world continue going down hill.
.What does President Carter expect
the oil companies to do with thelr profits?
Bury the money in a hole in the groW>d,
or in a sock at the foot of the bed?
There's . no profit in profits if such
foolish action is taken. What the oil
firms do --just as all business and
industry must do --is to plow back a
good share of the profit into new equip-
ment, new jobs, new production. That's
what capitalism is all about. Let's keep
lt that way, and reject the downgrading
efforts of the aoclallzers.

Cambodia's Horror
The dimensions of the carna~~:e in Ca m bodia
are difficult to comprehend. T he nation
claimed only seven mill io n inhabitants in 1970.
Yet al least 1.2 million (17 percent!) are now
dead as a result of CommuniRt deaign. Many of
t he sordid details of the ma11s murden have
come to light in a recent book entitled Murder
of a Grntle Land by John Barron and Anthony
Paul.
After in terviewinK three hundred refugees,
Barron and Paul reported that whe, the Com-

were no exceptions. Leave or be shot on the epot

of Lion mistakes, to gh'e the homecoming crowd a 16-0

The Lions tlrst helped Newport to a score in the nnaJ

was punting trom their own 33 yard ll.ne, and Roo Crouch

eventually got his root to the ball OOt kicked only to the
26 yard line under tremendous pressure from Sailor line-
men. Craig L'yons pe.ssed to Dana Wandrocke for a TO

'COSTA MESA
San Clemente remained uOOefeated in South Coast Leacue
play, clatmln& Its third straight wln with a 13-0 victory
over Costa Mesa at Orange Coast College field Saturday.
C n.~clal Mustang errors kept the Tritons on top tn a
game that otherwise could b.ave been won by Costa Mesa.
The most damaging bluoder came when San Clemente was
puntlne: trom the Mesa 37 early ln the first quarter~ The
Triton punt rolled past the 10-yard Une, where a Mustang
attempted to stop the roll by JUmpfngonthe ball. The pigskin
escaped out trom uDder the Mesan only to be scooped by
San Clemente's Scott Mesa, who scamper ed lntotheendzone
for a Triton score. John Sctsa!f split the uprta:hts and the
score was 7-0.
Midway throu&h the 4th quarter, Mike Echlverrl sprinted
34 yards for the second SC toucbdown.
Though Costa Mesa had trouble with the sticky defe nse
of the Tritons, the Mustangs had a rew chances to put points
on the board. The first dlsappoiDtment came In the last
mlootes of the first hall when Costa Mesa saw 4th down
slip away on the San Clemente 1-yard line with only inches
to go for a flrst down. Two end zone passes al90 proved
unsuccessfUl for the Mustangs, One was broken up and
the other Intercepted late In the fourth quarter.
Triton QB Mark McElroy passed only when needed and
completed 2 of 4 for 24 yards. Mustang QB Jerry Cribbs
went by air 25 times, connecting on 10 for 103 yards.
Costa Mesa mounted 192 total yards, while San Clemente

THE PANAMA CANAL
My phone has been ringing ott the wall with people wanting lo talk about the
Panama Canal. They don't understand how our government can be stupid enough to
give away ana of our most valuable possessions. I tell them they are underestimating
the stupidity or our leadership. Washington's ig norance know s no limits.
Maybe the glve~away shows on TV have influenced our Congressmen. Just like
the kid down In Florida who killed somebody and blamed Kojak, our Cong ressmen
are probably going to try to blame '•Let's Make a Deal" or "Hollywood Squares''
for infiuencing them to gin away our canal.
Well, I've got a deal that I'd like to see America make, I'd like for us to round
up all or the Congressmen, bureaucrats and other idiots who are trying to give away
the canal, and ship them down to Panama. The Latin Americans will understand
this, because Castro once invited all of his detractors to leave Cuba. wand a hell of
a lot of them took him up on H. So, let's send them our idiots,-and keep our canal.
This phony canal treaty reads like U was written by a double-talk artist. To the
Panamanians, 1t means the gringos must go home and turn everything over to
Panama. Torrijos is telling his people that we wiU never have a right to send in more
troops il the canal is attacked, and that our warships will wait their turn at the
entrance to the canal, even if there's a war on . Meanwhile, Carter is telling us ju st
the opposite. Somebody's lying,
We have some imp:lrtant mllitary bases down there, and we have a right to defend
the canal. A lot of Americans aod Frenchmen put in a lot of hard work and money, and
many of them died, to get that canal Wilt. When th ey were hiring people to do the
hard labor on the canal, they had to go to the West Indies and hire boatloads of
black men, because· they learned that the Panamanians were too damned lazy and
undependable. I know that doesn't sound nice, but check the historical fa cts and
you'll t!nd out that's just what happened, That's where Panama got Its black popula-
tion ~ from workers who stayed. (Panamanian racists call the blacks "chombos.")
So, oow along comes a 2-blt, loud-mouthed di ctator who wants to be a big local
hero by chasing out the gringos. He overthrew an elected government to take power.
Making treaties with a man who has no respect for the law is dangerous bus iness .
If he doesn't respect the constitution and the election laws of his own country,
why should we expect him to respect a treaty with a country which he openly despises?
Some of Carter's gaJli will tell you that other Latln American countries want us
to get out of Panama. Don't you believe it. Those countries send their Army officers
to our Canal Zone 1o train, and they send their sick b!gsbots to Gorgas Hospital In
the Zone, The hospital was named, by lhe way, tor the U. S. Army doctor who got
rid of yellow fever aDd malaria in Panama. If we give them back. ''their" Canal
Zoqe, should we also give them back their yellow rever and malaria? What the
hell, let's go all the way -let's give Panama back lo Colombia. Without our help,
Panama was a disease-wracked, poverty-stricken, backward province of Colombia,
With our help, It has become an Independent country, tree ot malaria and yellow
lever, with one o! tt.e hlgbest standards o! living In Latin America. The canal Is the
reason , •• the AMERICAN conal. Panama DOW brags o! ltsell as "tbe crossroads
ot the world and the heart o! th e unlferse." I hate lo tell you what part o! world's
onalomy It would be without America's help.
AI Forg!t
P.S. Yellow rever and rnalarlaare 110 big problem bere, bot If you need J.nsecUcldes,
mouse traps or other protecUoo around the bouse, we've got what you need at the
store. I we send a crew down 1o Panama 1o clean up the vermin thoro. A
trick.

"THE SWORD

.. ,,. Swt11fi tt1 ,,. s;;;;, .... ;,
tlw WOld al God" (Eph. 6:17) .
Of all the tplrlt~larmor whM:h
believers are told to "put on " In
Eph. 8:11 -18. there is only OM
offensive weapon . This is "the
SwO'"d of the Spirit ... the WO""d of
God."
The Bible is caUed the Sword
d "the SpHit ... because the
Spirit af God is its Author. It is
called "rlw Swtrd" of the Spirit
because. thus written by Gcd who
knows all. it can cut deeply. T~is
nkes it a fO""midab le weapon
against Satan ard the fO""ces of
evil operating all about us. We
are told in Heb. 4:12.13:
"The Word of God is living and
pcMtetful , 1nd sflllr,.er thlln any
· two~~d sword. piercing even
to the dividing asunder of soul

"Neither is there any creat~re
thlt is not menifest in His sight:
but all things are naked and

As David said long ago:
"0 Lord, Thou has searched
me . and known me .
"Thou knCIW8st my do,tnsitting
and mine uprising: Thou under·
standesl my thoughts afar off"
(f'sa . 139:1 ,2).
It is because God knows and
understands us so tt\oroughly !hat
His Word can sometimes c ut us
so deeply .
How wise, then. to bow befO""e

its condemnation of sin and trust
the SaviO"" it presents! And . hav·

Why
House of Windsor
is Red Skelton's
favorite cigar.
Red Skelton's tried some cigars that are more
expensive than House of Windsor Pal mas, but never
one that's better.
The reason is that our Pal mas are made from
only the choicest imported filler tobaccos and then
carefully wrapped in specially selected Honduran
natural or candela leaL
The result: quality and value rolled into one rich,
smooth·smoking cigar. House of Windsor Palmas,
•
•
shapely Sportsman or
full·sized Panatelas-
they've got the kind of
taste that could make
forget you
ever smoked
anything else.
