Newport Beach police Lt. Paul

reflect the growing success of the
program. The weekend before, 188
cruising. aJcohol and seat belt citations
were recorded, he noted.
Henisey stated that c~ though there
has been a marked decrease in the

Mayor Pro Tcm Ruthetyn Plummer
feels that the roadblocks are a good idea
"only as long as they arc necessary."
She added that the crowded conditions
of a week.end night on the Peninsula
pose a potential danger to public safety,
and that clearing the boulevard of
cruisers reduces the possibility of
disaster.
.. I don't want people to think that
they arc not welcome down here,"
Plummer said, adding that even though
the actions may be construed by some
people as unfriendly, she would rather
have the roadblocks than have
increased traffic related problems on

Seymour's law, which will go into effect Jan. I, 1917,
establishes a 0.10 blood alcohol level as legal intoxication
i ')r boat operators, the identical ie¥el as for automobile
irivcrs. Currentl)·, tbuc is no definition of intoxication
on the books for boat.en.
The ~w levies fines of S390 to SJOOO for boozing
boaters, if they arc first time offenders who cause no
accident or injury. Obvicusly, operaton who cause
serious damage or fataliti~ wilJ be faced with a much
stronger punishment.
While Seymour's legislation does importantly
strengthen weak laws regarding boozing boaters, it's
important to note the number of mishaps Calif omia
boaters reportedly arc in annually. In t98S, tbett were
482 accidents, with 54 fatalities. The previous year, 608
accidents were reported, with 73 deaths.
With the millions of boating excunions Calif omiam
make annually, these numbers cannot be regarded as
staggeringly high. But nonetheless, it has been proven
that most of the deaths that resulted from accidents were
as a result of alcohol.
Seymour's law probably won't change the habits of
most of Calif omia 's boaten. But it should greatly aid
the various law enforcement offacen in cracking down
on flagrant offenders.

'Red, White and Rosie' blossoms
BY JACK HOLLAND
It is not too often that a
Hollywood show is of enough
interest to induce Orange
County residents to take the
jaunt into town, but there is a
sprightly and ingratiating mus-

Theater called .. Red, White and

package of entertainment.
It deals with the women who
went to work in the factory
during World War II and the
part they played in the final
victory. It also presents women's
fight for recognition in the man's
world, their fight for equal work
and equal pay, and their role in
a union. It results in a vastly

continues his reputation u a
pmniere, luxury property spe-

bit career in real estate in 1980.
.. At that time I aaw an oppor-

to specialize in properties in
excess of SI million. No one was
doing this and I felt with my
education and background I was
well-qualified for this area of
specialization," said Cote, owner
of Cote RealtJ and ID•ataamt

Cote•s educational back-
ground includes eight years of
post-graduate study, with inten-

business management and a law
degree with academic honors.
He has spent over a decade ib
the real estate business; he is a
former vice-president of sales

company, and a certified instruc-
tor at UCI where for seven years
he taught real estate investment
analysis-a sophisticated course
that emphasii.es tax, law. finance
and complicated purchase and
sale agreeinents. He is also an
author of numerous real estate
articles for national journals,
magazines and newspapers.
.. Although I specialize in
Newport's finest residential and
commercial properties, the other
agents in my officer service the
full price range of properties
throughout Newport. Costa
Mesa. Irvine and other coastal
cities. My company is compre-
hensive and can serve all people's
needs," said Cote. Today, Cote
finds that the commercial prop-
erty market is changing due to
the speculation about the
Gramm-Rudman Tax Reform
Act. "Throughout the country,
potential investors are backing
off of these properties right now,
due to all of these uncertainties, ..
he said.
Cote and his wife, Cecile, have

who is an attorney, and a son

The dining rooms of these
models arc absolute must-sees
for everyone interested in au
courant design. For example,
one dining room showcases a

goatskin display cabinets, while
another features a spectacular
:dining tablt with a beautiful
Choramandel top adorned with
figures of Chinese people and
farm scenes. This table top,
resting under glass like a
museum piece, has heavy brass
legs and base ... a striking piece
of furniture.
Soft peaeh colors team with
taupe, beige and off-white in one
of the models and provide a
continuous soothing back-
ground for the white-washed
Country French furniture. It is
in this model that visitors will
discover dresser and mirror
frames that look exactly like
wood but are actually faux
marble, prompting· clo.Kr looks
and surprised expressions.
Mauve, paired with seaf oam
green, is used here in a myriad
of different shades. Of special
note is a round padded head-
board with a large orchid design.
