WHO GETS WHAT IN
MEASURE A?
THEY act millions of dollan
worth of added development in
and around Newport Center to
build Pelican Hill Road which
they have to have for their down
cout development.
THEY get the city to once
aaain break our General Plan.
THEY aet milliom of dollan
of extra hisb-rile office apace.
WE aet increued con&e*tion,
increued smos, increued traffic
and increued need for tuet to
pay for other roach and to
maintain new rOads.
And how are THEY trying to
sell thil white elephant?
THEY are 1howina a map that
it not filled in. Ask to see the
rest of the map 1bowin1 the
(downcoaat) development with
1900 hotel rooms, more than
2,000 new homes, more retail
centen, and a conference cen-
ter-AND 6S,OOO more cars per
day.
THEY are insulting us by
offering token gifta-a 20 year
lease for a teen center in return
for a $300 million development
in Newport Center and a huge
resort complex on the Irvine
Coast.
Don' let the big developen
continue to dictate our GeneraJ

Our Art Musnnn and I ibrar y will have room for major expansion;
there will be a site where young people can meet and be entertained;
there will even be provision for a day-care center for yo11ngsters -irs
all part of the Measa•re A plan.
I
There are many other benefits, all hammered out following years of
study and-months of bearings. Our road system will be much i111proved.
Construction of the Pdian Hill Bypass Road will take cars off Pacific
Coast Higl•way and route them around our city, especiaDy in Corona clel
Mar. MacAnl•ur Boulenrd and Jamboree Road will be widened -and
a111activdy landscaped -to rake care of far more than just the traffic

Our city govctaanaent and Die Irvine Company have been fi1sVng with

lhllllbled onto a newly opened

one of the best new reatauranta

Ember's has everything dis-

atmosphere and gracious service
all coupled with menu pricing
that doesn' strain the budaet. It
was my prediction, public and
private, that Ember's would
quickly become a local favorite.
It would appear that that
prediction was correct. A recent
call to Ember's 'on a Friday
afternoon resulted in the inf or-
mation that reservations for
dinner that evening were com-
pletely filled. Saturday? Yes but
prime time was getting scarce.
I wasn't surprised. Ember's
success was virtually guaranteed
by the attention that went into
each detail of the operation. Bill
Dcnkler, manager, and chef
Gilbert Mercado have found
little need to make changes in
any area at Ember's since open-
