This week, !!!c &sign found that it has some very good friends indeed. If you look in the small print at the bottom of the staff box below, you 11 see our address is ,83 Production Place." That street name ought to ring a bell-a small news event occurred there over the weekend when the Hixson metal finishing plant erupted in flames and toxic f umcs Sunday morning. Monday morning dawned cold and wet and the staff of the Ensign had nowhere to go-we were refugees. But, we were refugees with a paper to get out. We were also refugees with some fine friends, who deserve our heartfelt public thanks. So, thank you Pete and Agnes Barbaglia for opening your home to a bunch of frazzled and frantic news writers and editors. We h~ your phone and your word processor and your living room table survived intact. Thank you Jim Carnett and Matt Fukushima for opening your hearts and darkroom f acilitics to the Ensign. Without you two this would be a very wordy paper this week. And thank you Becky Bolton, the Queen of the Secretaries, for taking in the ad department and remaining steadfast in the eye of the hurricane. We would also like to take a .second to offer kudos to Judy Duffy and Melinda Keller for their sterling work in the face of adversity and absurdity to b~ our readers as complete and up-t~ information as posiiblc on the Hixson disaster. Also, a tip of the editor's visor to Sam Gangwer, the staff photographer, wbo probably ~ad it rougher than anyone Monday and still managed to develop and print all our photos by deadline. They did yeopersons work. . So, that's the story. A staff willing to go beyond the call of duty and some very fine friends came through this week to show everyone that the &sign is the little paper that could. All right, let's put it to bed. A bride should plan on six months, a groom or usher, three months, for abering a garment or adding special features.. A looser neckline, wider pant leg or extra room in the shoulder will enha~ movement. The person being fitted should model the dotbing as it will be worn-st~ing on crutches, ~ sitting in a wheelchair-to deter- mine if the fit is com.f ortable, the style attractive. • Plan time for rehearsing. Everyone needs time to get used to ocw places, unusual clothing. Though nowadays ·many public places are prepared to aid patrons, check for ~ room grab ban. entry ramps, low level or braille elevator control but- tons. Be sensitive to individual differences. People with disabil- ities react individually to situa- tions. One pcnon may love being photographed; another may feel uncom.f ortablc.
