While at Newport Harbor, DeBusk built up a respectable basketball program. In recent ye ars, the team average has improved and DeBusk has put ·together solid and hard working team . This past year the Sailors barely mi ed partic- ipating in the playoffs, despite playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the county: the Sea View League. Hi s 1988-89 team had a flare for th e dramatic, pulling out last second wins against league rivals, Estancia High and Corona del'Mar. Basketball was once again in vogue at Newport Harbor and the gym was filled with standing room only crowds. Despite the efforts of the Sailors and DeBusk, the team finished with a 2-8 final record, indicative of the Sailors' struggles in recent years. DeBusk also reached another milestone this year when· he was offered a post as an assistant at Chapman College under head coach Bob Boyd. Bob Serven , a 28-year-old assistant Newport Harbor coach, will take over the reins after serving under De Busk for three years and coaching for five years at the prep level. While the team and the school will no doubt miss De Busk, perhaps now is the time for Newport Harbor to embrace not only their new coach but the winds of change. While we acknowledge the inroads that DeBusk made at Harbor, we believe that the days of De Busk's incendiary coaching style can now be put behind us. The Sailors are in need of a new direction and Serven may be just the man for the job. His youth and exuberance can only be an asset to Harbor's developing basketball program. ··-------------------------------------------Baker Communications Circua.tioft 25.00C. 901 Dover Crave Newport Beech, CA 92660 (714) 831 -8120 f>teeM lend meil to P .O. His 1988-89 team had a flare for the dramatic, pulling out last second wins against league rivals, Estancia High and Corona del Mar. Basketball was once again in vogue at NewP.ort Harbor and the gym was filled with standing room only crowds. Despite the efforts of the Sailors and DeBusk, the team finished with a 2-8 final record, indicative of the Sailors' struggles in recent years. · DeBusk also reached another milestone this year when he was offered a p_ost as an ~ssistant at Chapman College under head coach Bob Boyd. Bob Serven, a 28-year-old assistant Newport Harbor coach, will take over the reins after serving under DeBusk for three years and coaching for five years at the prep level. While the team and the school will no doubt miss De Busk, perhaps now is the time for Newport Harbor to embrace not only their new coach but the winds of change. While we acknowledge the inroads that DeBusk made at Harbor, we believe that the days of DcBusk's incendiary coaching style can now be put behind us. The Sailors are in need of a new direction and Serven may be just the man for the job. His youth and exuberance can only be an asset to Harbor's developing basketball program. ··----------------------Baker Communications Cit'cutlltioft 25,00t 901 Ocw9' Drive Newport Beech, CA 92660 (714) 831-1120 - PteeM Mnd mail to. You want to marry the man of your dreams ... Yah-but, his divorce isn't final yet. and his three sons will be out of juvenile hall before the wedding." Whether you •ve realized it or not, your life is cluttered with Yah-buts. What Orange Coast College Professor Susan Smith has done is place them in the form a plush doll that delivers a life-coping message. According to S mith ... the YAH in him wants to say 'yes' to every scheme. the BUT in him reminds us that thing arc never what they eem." That seemed to be the case for Smith as well as he tried to get the Y AH-BUT rolling. "It' amazing the amount of time it takes to get from ·Gee. wouldn't it be great.· to actually getting it out," said Smith. who admitted to being a novice in the manu- facturing busincs . "George is an immigrant from Viet Nam who really believe in the American Dream:· said Smith. "'I couldn't have done it without him." Smith is a Newport Beach resident and a Harbor High chool and OCC alumnus. She was graduated from orthern Arizona University with majors io history and philo ophy and said. "This is payback time for me. The advantage to being in education is being exposed to the remarkably fertile ground for imagination." She admitted to personalizing her Y AH-BUT with ·forty is not fatal.· When asked if there were any other projects in the works, she rcpljcd ... What does it take to ·get a real estate license?" they ask. "How do I get started selling real estate once I have my license?" The answer to the first ques- tion is the simplest one. There are many excellent community college courses offered locally which fulfill pre-licensing educa- tional requirements. AdClit\on- ally, private local schools as well as correspondence courses arc easily available to prepare stu- dents for the actual real estate examination. The costs arc modest. Some real estate com- panies even offer to pay for licensing expenses if the prospec- tive licensee agrees to sign up with them as a fledgling sales- person. -. - The more difficult questions to answer are the ones regarding a person ·s likelihood to succeed in a career which is highly competitive and which makes great demands on its practition- ers. If, on the other hand, this person is highly motivated. ambitious, energetic and a sclf- starter, he/she has a good chance to be successful and happy in the field of real estate. Part-time" real estate agents have little chance for success. This is a business which demands one's ALL! .. Real estate is a jealous lover," we warn prospective agents.
