are regimented, they· are
wliformly good and moder-
ate in prlce, a condition for
which the S. P. over whose
. lines we travelled, calls for
a meed of praise.
At Fresno met my brother
Louis and his fine spouse,
and went to Carmel for a
visit with the Nellis and
their two boys, also rela-
tives. Carmel is built like
Laguna Beach, only more
so, and Its lovely wooded

houses, makes one wonder if

Service Men's Idea. Went
to Oakdale, a picturesque,
• delightful town nestling in
the h~ of Stanislaus
county, one of the richest
-·agricultural areas in the U.
S. The Oakdale Union High
school district has put over
an idea tflat could well be
emulated here. The white
, brick wall of a two-story
building next to a gas sta-
tion, has been utilized for
the names of some 1100 men
in the service of their coun-
try. The money was raised
by subscription and a bill
posting firm did the job of
painting in letters that can
be read 50 feet away. Where
a Gold Star is all too fre-
quently req u i re·d. it is·
painted opposite the boy
who will not return, and
more than a dozen have an-
swered the last caJJ from a
-community of less than 10.-

that could well fall within
the province of our own
Chamber of Commerce. as
the Oakdale Chamber spon-
80red that one.

That Newport Beach residents are grateful for the Red
