GIFl'S! An odd, and
1 perhaps unusual, idea to a
ltift.Jc:Mng . government, was
PftBellted Congress by Her-
bert Hoover when he sug-
gested that foreign relief be
placed on a loon basis; take
llirope's needy nations off
dlarity rolls by insisting on
prompt repayment if they
expect future aid. He urged
~ to "stop, look and llsteil", before approving fur-
ther relief . grants. He said
the U. S. had already given
1-rly six billion; that not a
dollar ~oold go ~o countries
maintaining standing annies
instead of putting their man
power to work raising food;
repayments should have pri-
ority over all other external
debts, including war repara-
tlops. Mr. Hoover also could
have mentioned Russia and
Yugoslavia, which take out
supplies and sla p us in the
face as a "thank-you".
Red ~. In line with
Former President Hoover's
remarks on foreign relief,
qomes the annual appeal by
the Red Cross for funds to
mainjain that worthwhile in-
stitution in these United
States. The millions raised
by that organization during
March go to protect almost
every form of d~ster where
Sick and injured require
medical aid. In the harbor district Mrs. Victor Grace
heads the committee to raise
Its thousands of local dollars.
She has done this job for
~ and asks the coopera-
tion of everyone in making
the drive a success.

upon authorities dealing with the
matter of developmei;it of an Al-
amitos Bay marina.
Upon presentation by F r e d
Hickman. secretary of the Seal
Beach Che.rnber of Commerce of
the proposal to establish a marina
which in its present plan contem-
plates the removal of the bridge
across the entrance of the bay,
linking Ocean Ave. in Seal Beach
and Ocean Blvd. in Long Beach,
the directors agreed that the in-
terruption to direct access be-
t\\·cen the t\vo cities would be det-
rimental to residents of both.
Another problem for Orange
County and particularly the coast·
al cities upon which early action
was believed vital is the planning
of traffic arteries or freeways to
ha ndle the volume of traffic an-
ticipated when Sepulveda Blvd. is
developed as an express way
through Long Beach to the Or-
ange County line as reportedly
proposed by · state highway a u-
thorities.
A recommeJ?dation from the as-
sociation's highway committee,
headed by C.' G. Kimble of La-
guna Beach, was requested by
President George Wheat .

Maf7 Bater Eddy has made lt. pos-

tplrlCU&lly the real ma.n's God-given '
dominion over .material sense. This
understanding enables us to enJoy
health and happiness, peace and
ple:nt;y In present human experience.
Deceptive Sense Testimony
During the late war. some Ameri-
can sailors. long adrU t on a raft,
landed on an Jsland 1n the sour.hweat.
Pac1ftC. Believing that the natives
were h05tile, and po&slbly a bar-
barous people, the sailors prepared
to defend themselves as best they
eould tn case they wel'f:! attacked.
After waJttng long tor &0mething
to occur. during wh1ch their sense
ol hunger and thirst became des-
petat.e, the sailors decided upon the
Jeuer of two evils; that Ls, they de-
dded to eo out tn search of food and
water, come what would. The search
bad barely begun, however. when
they learned to their joyful surprise
that the s:uppo~Iy hostile natives were a friendly folk and that their
only desire was to lend them a help-
ing h and. The outcome .was that the
l&llora were plentifully supplied with
food and wattr and in other ways
well cared for -ur\til they were taken
oft the lsland by a searching party
o1 fellow Americans.
Now, I need not tell you tha E at
no thne were those sailors in danger
at the hands of the natives. even
whfle they beUeved themselves to be.
Although they knew it not. they
were ln the midst of friends. The
iupposed danger wa.s therefore un-
real. They were victims of Lheir own
ml.staken point of view. Conse-
quenUy, they needed only to learn
the truth &bout their supposed pre-
dicament tn order to be free from
fear and to · have their immediate
aeeds' supplied.
SJmllarly, owing to a tl.nlte, ma-
