MILLIONS. It Is absorbing
to iret a picture of the
ftnandaf status ,of Newport
Beach, at Jee.st of its inhabi·
tants., What promoted the
Cllrioalty was attendance at
a meeting last week of the
Newport Balboa Feder a I
Savings and Loan Assn.,
wtiereln I learned that this
home loaning organization
bad passed the three-mlWon
mark In resources, exact flg-
ur.... being $3,283,3.33. Then
-learned that deposits and
resources of the two
bnilcbes ot the Bank of Am·
er1ca were nearly $11,000,-
000. You can confidently add
another million of money
deposit!!!! elsewhere, which
gives cash owned by local
people of some $15,000,000. fo.ssessed value of property
runs more than $17,000,000
for the city, so it is apparent
that local citizens are in
pretty good financial stand-
ing, not an unpleasant feel-
ing to contemplate.
To drift back to the Sav-
ings and Loan group-its
·loans, as of March 1. totalled
$2,806.703, while loans in
process were nearly $850,-
000, the bulk of them being

Interesting observation was
; that building in the middle

with California better-class

mate that is a bit low for
this section, unless it be on a m'a.ss production scale.

WW Keep Faith. That was
a hopeful statement of
GOP Chair m a n Carroll
Reece to the effect that his
perty will keep faith with
the voters. But it sems to
take e'm a da rn long time to
get going. At it for several
months and what with fi ght-
ing over the budget and la-
bor, etc., they seem to be
just marking time. One solon
says the budget can be cut
five billion; the man who
perfected the pay-as-you-go
tax plan claims eight billion
could be slashed and still
give us a 20 % chop in in-
come taxes. One good plan
would be to make federal
employes really work at their
jobs and the way to do that
Is reduce personnel and tell
the bureaucrats to get along
with so much help or else.

Bill Trusty Given
Patent for His Signs
While his present output is
strictly commercial in its appli-
cation on lighted signs, untold po!-
sibilitics in the decorative field
are seen by William Trusty, New·
port Heights electrician, who has
just received the patents on his
Edge-light plastic sign holder.
The holder has interchangeable
letters a nd the color can be chang-
ed at will. One of the signs is
now in operation at the Knowlton
building on West Central avenue.
The use of plastic in lighting
has opened up a whole new fJeld
in the way of murals and large
decorative designs for night clubs,
as well as store window displays
and ornamen tal effects for the
home.Mr. Trusty stated, He is
working on this larger fi eld as
his major project and has already
installed ornamental booth lights
in a Loilg Beach night club.
