MEETINGS. Attended a
flock of meetings t h e
last week and was pleasantly
IUrprised at the attendance;
only thing that dismays all
us old has-beens is the great
number of new faces-people
you never saw ~ore and
you wonder where they all
aime from. Got tooken to
the Business and Profession-
al Woman's c I u b shin<lig
wblch taxed the capacity of
the Yacht club ballroom to
aeat 'em all. The old guard
was there but most of the
snappy program was handled
by new comers, although
pretty Dorothy Sutherland
was made chief boss for the
current year and Les Stef-
fensen took his fourth an-
nual bow as toastmaster. He
was good, as usual, but he
too was perplexed by the
strangers, on whom he had
no line to "kid." Nicest thing
was making him an honor-
ary member, the rite being
performed by Agnes Blom-
quist. The crowd thoug ht the
gals were teasing Les. but
they were in deadly earnest
and really meant it as a
token of appreciation.
The quips handed out by
that bunch of fems. were
timely and clever, as were
the booths erected at one end
of the room and the lip.stick-
ed faces of the gents led into
the holy of holies gave them
a sheepish look as t h e y
emerged. which may sound
like sour grease paint. 'I\vo
fair Lido Islanders put on
some of the best stunts. with
Edythe Lippincott doing a
ravishing Sophie Tucke r skit
and Natalie Michaud giving
an Indian dance that wowed
them. Elaine Weiss of realty
fame _m ade a honey of a
"Gwendolyn" and Hilda Bris-
coe as "Sylvia" proved "half
revealing, half concealing."
Fem Hobbs made a nifty
11Lucinda," while Irene Mor-
ris as "Toots." Ruth Hershey
and Joan Herrick, tap danc-
ers, and the three Bettys
Barstad, Noller and Handy
and Marilyn Wheeler a nd
Clarice Brown completed a
dam good show.

search. Rose is quite a speak-
er and said the movies, radio.
newspapers and brazen ad-
vertisers were sending the
youth of the nation to the
nit-wits. He also blamed the
parents but absolved the un-
derpaid teachers, although
handing the schools a wallop
f o r t h e inane stuff they
taught the kids. Informal Mr.
Rose urged the P.-T . A. to go
after the various agencies
mentioned above in order to
save the youth and wipe out
the scourge th a t afflicts
them. but any plan for going
about the task was as vague
as a· summer breeze. ·Much of biS stuff was to the point and
my su~estion is to name a
carefully selected committee
to work out a program that
will lead to better publicity
and entertainment. yet re-
tain liberty without license.

the highs and lows this year.
"Hurdlers aren't muCh differ-
ent today from what they were
35 years ago," Cromwell grinned,
as Kelly and Lawrence s h o o k
hands. "I liked 'em rangy in those
days, and that's the way I like
'em today."

Famed in the sports world. Kelly
is even more renowned in avia-
tion circles. On April 17 he cele-
brAtes the 21st anniversary of his
trailblazing flight for Westerrn
Air Lines from Los Angeles to
Salt Lake City on the nation's
first airmail run.
He was the first pilot hired by
\Vestern back in 1926, and has
be<-n \\'ith the company since that
time.
Cromwell pointed out that the
prerequisites for a champion high
hurdler are the same today as they
v.•ere 35 years ago. The similarities
betw('(>n Kelly and Lawrence are Kelly, who Cromwell calls the many. Both are Jong-legged, over

According to Ramona executives
sales are almost double that of
last year in advance of opening.
The outdoor spectacle i! scheduled
for six performances on April 19
and 20, April 126 and Z7 and May
3 and 4.
In the roles of Ramona a n d

Brandon supported by a cast ot
300 comprised of residents of both
Hemet and neighboring San Ja-
cinto.

2:45 p.m. in Ramona Bowl located

fishing and swimming, or landing

emergency) specifically prohibited.
(c) The name and address of
the owner. and the license num-
bel', description, color and size of
the er-aft to be registered with the
depot.
( d l Passage to be made only
upon the·expres! perml.ssion of the
commanding officer (via the Depot
Duty Officer) in each instance,
date and time of e xpttted return
to be given; this permission to be
obtained by telephone or otherwise
not less 'than one hour before sea-
ward transit in order tha t secur-
ity personnel may be properly
notified and to a void interference
with scheduled opera lions.
(e) That, to permit identifica -
tion, all such passages (except
1uch u are necessitated by stress
bf weather) be ma de between the
beginning of morning twilight and
the end of evening twilight.
(t ) Both entrances to the bay

snake such passage be required to
sign a notarized agreement to
