While Ollie has quit retailing

In line with this will be

told me the other day that
wages will continue to climb.
He wanted to know how
much I was earning in my
20's and when I said $22.50
per week, he stated that his
start was around $35 weekly,
being a quarter of a century
later, and that his son, who
would be grO\~ in another

was the main alsle down which

nat••euot•Trt. W• found one of the cott&CH
at Hllll Haven available and took
It for 1he night. Since It was aUll
daylight we dedded to look around
the premlles. A chucklln11 river
below ua attracted us.
Just as we started to go down
the narrow lane which led to the
river a coup1e met us comJng up.
They were attired in bathing suits.
We were strangers. but they
treated ua like old frlenda.
''We've just been swimming,"
said the tall. slim young man in
blue trunks. ''Why don't you take
a dip. You'll like it."
Rh companion, a rather robust
but doll·faced youngster, looked
up with a smile and nodded assent
to his remark.
We smiled and thanked him for
the invitation.
"Do you suppose they're mar·
ried?" I saJd to the Masua. They
both looked so young. ·
''The young man loo~ much
older," said the MJllUS.
''Uh, huh," I said and let It go
et that.
Since the path ·some distance
away was more rugged and sud-
denly dropped down amid some
rocks that were too precarious for
the Mislus, I volunteered to go
ahead.
The sudden drop shot me for-
ward wtth a jerk and 1 have slid
into a gulley, which led to a big
boulder. ThiJ I was forced to ne-
gotiate.
In younger days I was quite a
hill climber and no am9unt of
height fazed nOr scared me, but
this big boulder had me buffaloed,
but I made it, hand over hand.
"'hen the moSs seemed to slippery
underfoot.
And then I looked down into 15 re et ot smooth-running water ,
brooked only by a small rapids
just above. Here-in this great,
\\'ide. pool-was where they swam.
ON RETURNING to the cot·
tage the Missus suggested that r
go to the general store which was ,
up the r oad and get some food
for our dinner . '
She listed the items she want-
l'd. bread. butter, m eat, tea and
some other articles and t h e n
handro be a ten doll!U' bill
The storekeeper and r sought
out the food that could be ob-
tained from the shelves. I told
him I'd like some cold, boiled
ham .
Ile went to the cooler a nd
brought forth a large ham. laid
it down on the meat-block, took
a large, sharp knife and began to
slice.
At tha t moment a large ma n
came in and startC'd across the
noor in another direction. The
storekeeper (at least I thought
he "'as) called to him.
The large man stopped.
"Is this cold, boiled ham. Har-
ry?" said the man with the large,
sharp knife in one hand a nd the
ha m in the other.
"NO.'" Said Harry sharply.
"Tha t's baking ham."
"Oh." Said the _man v.'ith the
large sharp knife. as he picked
up the ham and carried it back
to the cooler .
"W e have n's a n y cold. boiled

through an opening leading to his
storeroom.
\Vhen the man with the large,
sharp knife returned to the coun-
ter, I told him I'd se ttle for cold
