.ISIAND PIER PROBLEM
The pier problem on Balboa hland, commonly known
as a "hot potato" has been gingerly placed in the hands of
the city planning commiuion. So baa & deal to lease city·
owned waterfrontage for 25 yeara
It's been said that if you pass a "hot potato" from
hand to hand fast enough, no one Will get burned. It will
be interesting to watch thls one.

JUST A LOT OF THANKS _
Th~ are a lot of people in Newport Harbor who de-
serve a lot of thanka We are speaking of USO workera who
have made life a little nicer for many servicemen who have
visited Newport Harllor; of Red Croes workera who have
given of their tiJge and money; of Ration Board memhen
who have perhaps been more roundly cusaed than any other
group in town, but who never-the-leea have done a fine job;
of airplane spottel:a, volunteer Coaatguardsmen, civil air
patrol memhera and otjiera. •
