That is the substance. and the sum of $100,000 was
mentioned aa the value too great to be 'given' to the Sea
Scouts of thi8 water wonderland.
Sea Scouts of the Newport Harbor Area and Jn fact
all of Orange County and Southern California have had
for aome ~e past a home to call their own on the Coast
High1tay fronting OD Newport Bay.
The boys through their counaelora have made plallll
to build. In order to make more aound tllelr plan they
must have a leaae extenaion of ten years.
Land which the Scout.era have used la bay frontage
given to the city for the beat use of the great.eat number
of people poeaible.
The land haa been put to good use.
In days past Sea Scouts of the weetern states have
made thi8 Harbor of ours their home. In far oft 'porta',
Salt Lake, Phoenix, Tucson, Denver, the goal of all good
Sea Scouts ha.s been to make the annual 'Rendezvous' at
Newport Harbor. The Scouts at one time were welcome
at the city camp ground. For two weeks each year the
grounds were practically turned over to them. Then

here booaters spreacling good words which could not be
bought or garnered from any other aource. The enthWl-
iaam of Youth is a contagious thing.
The Scouts were then 'leased' the present quarters on
the Highway. They have bullded well. Their plans ,are
better yet and they have committmenta for materials to
complete their dreams.
They are located on city land -city land that was

But one city official said, "That land is worth a
hundred thousand dollars, that is too much for us to give
away to charity-to the Sea Scouts.' I'----------------'-------'

John Webster waa first elected to the Board of
Trustees of the Costa Meaa Elementary School in April,
1932. Since the time he first became a member of the
Board of Trustees until Y:ay 8th of this year, the Board
has had 260 meetingll and of these meetingll, Mr. Webster
baa attended a total of 244 meetings.
Over a period of fifteen years he has missed only 16
meetings, which is a 94 % attendance an unusually excep-
tional record of service to the community without charge. ~

the people of the community for this service that he baa
