Yes now we know how the hen feels -only on a
larger s~le. Just look at these figures and you'll ·see
what the Newport Bay Post and Shopping News hatched.
Richard's Market, advertising the event in tlle • P06t

candling processes used at Richard's Own Chicken Ranch
at the store display last weekend.
. In today's edilion you'll notice in the, colu~n. "Rambling Around" with Sallie.
that Richard's sold 13.764 eggs. That 1s 1141 DOZEN >. .. We a~ happy to see
an outstanding store use this paper regularly. doubly happy to see >rrefutahle evi-
dence that the Newport Bay Post and Shopping News gives the best results for

ADVERTISING APPRECIATION
3 F we didn't have to eat, didn '.t need clothes
or a house to live in and never , went any-
where, advertisirig ;would be useless.
But life being what it is we do have to eat (and
most of us enjoy it), clothes are ess~ntial (and
make u!s look better), houses are useful (and com-
fortable, too) i and we all like to gad about (and
le~.r!I .abqyt things_ on _the oth~r side of town and
the other side of the.world.) ·
Now what's all this got to do with advertising?
(A leading and a loaded question).·Well, chum,
simply this: Advertising means more and better
food , clothing, cars, houses, and so on, at lower
cost to you. If there had never been any advertis-
ing we'd still be working the fields ,with "modern"
wooden plows, riding bareback into the village in
snappy buckskin britches, living in the latest style
log cabins and feeding heartily on turnips. There
would be no automobiles to worry abo,ut, no air-
planes, no radio or television, no ~utomatic dish-
washers -the simple life, yo~ know. And there
wouldn't be any ne~spapers either, for they could
not exist without advertising. ·
II ~vertising has n~t only · sti~ulated c?mpeti-
_/</-t1on, lowered prices and raised quality, but
it has also served to educate people to the need
of certain goods and services. Through advertisin.g
-principally newspaper adverllsing -the-la.te
financial wizard A. l>. Giannini "lade the once-:
aloof and mysterious banking business as familiar
and useful to the public as the cor,.er grocery . . store. ·
· Next week, February l 7 to 2'3, is Advertising'
Appreciation Week, and we hop that what we
have told you will .make you app eciate the fact
far, as the best means o pdpul~rizing their pro!
ducts. Read the ads. They're news f()o!
