HARBOR LIGHT
NEW LOOK
Thia week we introduce a new venture to our readers.
The Blade, whose appearance each week ha.a, we hope, become
familiar to you, iw taken cin that .. New Look." It's been dressed up
from the front cover to the back in the latest faahion.
Prom now on (a.Muming, of course; that we" meet with your ap·
proval), the new PICTORIAL Blade will come to you each Thunday
aa a supplement to the Week·End Edition of the Newport Balboa
News.-Timea.
In this way, we hope to do things; first, we expect to render a
greater service to all our readers by providing them with readable,
interesting features and pictures about Newport·Balboa and people
they know. Second, we hope to strike a better balance betwten the
incr~g demand for advertising space and our policy of giving our
readers the "most fo r their money" in features and pictures.
By merging with the News·Times, the Blade gains a vastly wider
audience. Yet the Blade will not lose its identity. It will continue to
s~ for peninsular Balboa in the belief that the problems of Balboa
are, in the last analysis, the problems of us all. But we believe it will
speak the more effectively by commanding a greater readership.
Like the News~Times, t he Blarje seeks to promote a greater cohesion
between the several gographical entities that comprise Newport Beach.
The future of the H arbor area is inextricably linked to unity. T ogether,
we ca.onot fa.ii to become a great coast city.
If the Pictorial Blade can, from time to time, help ua all to realiu
that, it will have served a good purpose.

BUT on with the show. On page three we are beginning the first
of two installments by Fred Prost on the treasure-seeking O 'Hanlons.
The story of the Dwyn·W en and the voyage to Cocos was first
broken by the Los A ngeles Hcral<l·Express. The N ews-Times •. "scoop·
ed" in its own back yard, took up where the Herald· Express left off
and ran a feature in its Tuesday, October 14 edition under the head·
ing, "Adventurers to Sail F rom Here to Hunt Fabulous Cocos Treas·
ure."
N ow comes a chapter ahout the people hehind the story-the
O 'Hanlons. In Fred's story )'OU 'll get a glimpse of what sends the
O'Hanlons off on a romanti(', rather imprubahle adventure for buried
gold. Perhaps yo u'll come to the same conclusion we did: the only
diffcn.:nce between the O'Hanlon family and ours is that they really
are going vagabonding. W 1: only uay·drcam about it.
