BEING A GUFilT colum-
nist for this spot, regu-
larly 'conducted for many
years by the Sand Crab, an
old, old timer, is a job that
requires no mean effort from
one · young in our cominun-
ity. However it is my opin-
ion that Kipling's "If'' is one
of the greatest pieces of phil-
osophy ever written, fo• ex-
ample the first verse:
U you can keep your head
when all abou.t you
Are losing thtjrs and
blaming it on you,
U you can trust yourself
when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for .
their doubting too;
U you can wait and not be
tired of waiting, pr being lied about, don't
deitl in lies,
Or being hated, don't give
·way to hating,
And yet don't look too
gpod, nor talk too wise.
It is my opinion that all
men should try to live by the
ideals expressed in Kipling's
famous verse. + + +
I believe that it is my duty
as president of the Kiwanis
club of Newport Harbor to
make constructive criticism
when I feel it is for the best
interest ot our 'community.
I think---

tint, that by not having
a Mercb!mt's division of the
Newport Harbor Chamber of
Commerce, that It is then ne-
cessary to have a ~rdinat
ing roundl of the different
business associations a n d
setvlce clubs in the area, and
that these groups should
work together in close e<>-
operation but should each
maintain its Identity;
+ • +
~d, that the improve-
ment associations of the
harbor area should be affil-
iated as a merchant's divis-
ion of the chamber of com-
merce, and that small busi-
ness and young men's ideas
must be given more consider-
atitwi -by that body. And the
number of improvement as-
sociations in this cicy are the
outgrowth of the lack of this
