SANTA ANA JA
ORANGE COA
Santa Ana's Jayaee Dom took
the measure of Oran&e Coast'•
Pirates Friday night in Santa
Ana's crackerbox l)'m, 67-S6 u
Dick Warner meshed 16 out of 16 free throw attempts.
The free throws definitely won
the game for the Dons as both
teams &cored 22 field aoala. The
winners tanked tl3 out of 31 char-
ity tosses and Cout BCO:red 12
out of 21. There were 46 fouls
called in the game, 26 on OCC
and 20 on the hometowners.
The short 84 ft. court stopped
the Pirates' chief offense, the
fut break with the help of a
tight net in the first halt. The
ball, after each Santa Ana bas-
ket, would come down so slow
through the net that it held
beck the attack. The locals
scored only six Cield goals in the
first half while their oppanents
were dunking in 11. The Dons
had a 31-16 halfway lead.
Coast came back with a man
for man at the start of the se-
cond halt and D~ed to clip
the Don lead down as Ralph Fref-
tag leveled his sights on the
rim for six long shots. The drive
ran out of gas when Howard Hen-
ning bowed out of the game with
five personal tou.11.
The Pirates started off as us-
ual---4Jlowly. The clock h a d
. hardly begun to atart when the
loca1a found themselves trailfn&, ~
Warner was h.lah point man for
the Dons and the 1ame u he
scored two field goal.I in addi-
tion to h.ia 16 charity tosses.
Team mate Nick Stevenson
pumped in 17 and another Don.

cadet Ra.y S. Hansen, son of Mr.
and Mn. Herman Hansen of New-
pprt Beach was one of the group
of cadets of the U. S. Military Aca-
demy at West Point who visited
the U. S. Naval Academy at An-
napolla in the first of this year's
student exchanges between the two
service academies.
These student exchange trips art
des1cned to familiarize the first
(sellior) and second (junior) class-
es ot the academies with the other
• school's academJc and mllitary
training and methods of instruc-tion, all in an effort to bring the
future officers of the Ariny, Navy,
and Air Forces into a closer and
more understandin~ union.
Throughout his VlSit at the Nav-
al academy, each cadet Hves with
a midshipman and attends classes,
meals, chapel, and other fonna-
tioos with this midshipman for the
four-day period. In thJs way, he
becomes, as nearly as ~ible, an
integral part of m idshipman life.
Cadet Hansen, a second classman
<Junior ). holds the rank of corporal
in the Cof1>5 of Cadets. While at
the academy, Hansen has been
very active in extra curricular ac-
tivities, beln&' the assistant con-
ductor of the cadet concert or-
chestra, treasurer of the Radio
club and a member of the French
club, pistol club, and fishing club.
Appointed to the academy from
the Army ot the United States,

tion.

Sewage Program
(Continued from P~e One)
poMl plant has become critJcal and
remedial action should be started
as soon as posaible.
"The present plant locat<-d eas-
ly of the Santa Ana river and ap-
p.rox:tmately one quarter or a mile
northerly ot the state highway was
bullt In 1937 and was designed for
a capacity ot •PefOximately 1,300.-
000 gallon8' per day. At that time
it was estimated that the plant
would be good to,,. 12 or 15 years,
but the volume of sewa&"e that the
plant now ta required to treat has
tu exceeded the 1,300,000 gallon
capadty, and according to r ecords
a lnaxhnum of approximately 3.-
000,000 ga]Jona hu been put
through the plant ln one day. The
avelJlge dally flow at this time of
year is aJ.)IJl'OXimately 2.200.000
gallons. which makes treatment in-sufnclent and very costly.
'"Ille recent rulings of the state
health department requiring that
all sewage be steriUzed before dJ.s..
posaJ in the ocean n~tated the
recent chl<>rlna Uon program. Th Is
program, u has been stated many
times, la extttrnely C08tly and
should be considered only a tem-
porary measure.
"At the pl"8ent Ume the city of
Newport Beach contracts with the
Joint Outfall Sew'er-district for ca-
padtY Jn itl outfall in to the ocean
at the Santa Ana river. This out·
fall has. long bffTI inadequate for
the amount of sewage contributed
b}' the inland dtJes and Newport
Bea.ch.
"The propo&ed method of oper-
ation tn a joint· treatment plant
and outfall sewer 18 by tar the
most eoonomlcaJ way for Newport
Beach to handle the treatment of
its sewage. The program a.4' out-
lined bv the SanJtattoa district en-
