WITHOUT IT-Well, you can't
get through lite without SOME
trouble, I guess. And we've been
n pair of lucky
loons r ight up
to this week.
And then wba.t?
Jim got sick.
He ca.me home
ye>slerday and
i:;aid, "I'm~
honey, but i
have to go to
t he hospital."
Well, I never
wait tor people
to finish thiqa.
U it's a Joke, I lauab before they
get to the potnt. If it's bad news,
I'm crying like mad before the
blow falls.
Anyway, he finally managed to
explain that he'd gone to the
doctor, and that he MIGHT have
dJabetes in lta earlielt atqes.
Well, I just went on crying, and
I'm still crying, and I don't care
who knows It, or whose shoulder
I lean on.
I don't have any talent for
suffering all by my ownsom.e, or
enduring things in a strong, si-
lent WIJ.Y. Or going off by myself
and doing my crying In private.
In the first place, when you live
in the auburbe. there ain't no
privacy. You're always surround-
ed by neighbors. ki<b, and dogs.
And thank heaven!
TIIE WORST PART-The wont
part 11 that he was sick, and I
dJdn't even realize iL You've got
to groan in a loud voice before
I know anythlng'a wrong. And
I've been whisking him out to
dinner, and danclne. and heaven
knows whaL It Just makes me
feel horrible.
He didn't aay anything be-
cause he Wal trying to rrotect me, I gueu. So, instead o a few
preliminary groans and discul-
slon1 about should he eot to the
doctor or shouldn't he, and
couldn't he have 1upper in bed.
he Just marched in here a.nd
threw a bomb at me yesterday
noon. I keep saying, "If you'd
only treat me as th.ouah I ha.d
good sense, thinga would be 10
much easJel':" I'm alwaya acream-
ing about that-that I'm a sen-
sible person and deserve to be
lr<'ated as such. And then I do
something sUly to prove I'm a
moron. Like the other day when
I drove home ln the good car,
with Jim tooting alone ln the
puddle jumper behind me. I went
to make a left turn--and sure
enough I gave a right hand 1lg-
nal. But what woman CAN drive
with her husband around?
THERE I WAS-There I was all
week, going out with our bache--
lor and thinkJng I wu so devll-
llh, and everything. And all the
time Jim wa1 f alllng apart and
not saying anything. But the
bachelor was maldng his annual
visit at our house, to prove to
himself that man1ed bliss ls Just
another name for un-lroncd

on you, and helping with the
dishes. or course be had to be
entertained. So Lobelia took .-s
to lunch-she had an old f amOy
friend on hand, too-also male
and unmarried. She was looking
dreamy in a pink hat that looked
like strawberries plled on spun
sugar. And I was all done up ln
my dollar-twenty-five velvet
sack.

to Be Discussed
at Costa Mesa Church
A drama tlc aervice entitled,
"Delinquency Prevention" will
be the program at the 7:30 ser-
vice at Cotta Mesa Community
church n e x t Sunday eVC'rung,
when Mr. Henry B . Hall will be
the 1pcaker.
A young man, who has made a
1tudy of the narcotics problem,
Mr. Hall believes arresting boys
and girls hu not gotten at the
root of the evil. With the wide-
1pread traffic tn marijuana,
particularly, we need education
and character tralntne during
the early formative yea.n.
