From: Susan Kopicki [mailto:sckopicki@gmail.com] Sent: Monday, April 24, 2017 10:40 PM To: Dept - City Council <CityCouncil@newportbeachca.gov> Subject: Invocation Resolution Mayor and City Council, Based on my reading, the resolution means that the only religious organizations that will be on the list are organizations located in Newport Beach. I searched for a Quaker meeting and found none. searched for a Mosque and found none. I searched for a Unitarian church and found none. I searched for a Buddhist Temple and found none. Does this mean that these organizations cannot be represented for invocations at city meetings? This is a ridiculous resolution and actually harmful, because it means many residents will never hear an invocation delivered by a member or leader of the faith or spiritual practice that they affiliate with. It is discriminatory and unfairly favors some religious organizations over others. Considering the high cost of property in Newport Beach, it favors wealthy and large mainstream religious organizations. I think this is a bold attempt to limit representation to a small segment of the faith community and I think it's unfair. Please vote no on this resolution. Susan Kopicki 511 EI Modena
