, ' Here's Tom's report on the coovenaGon:
' Barber: "I'm oot 1oln1 to nte for Brown."
Tom: "Why not?''
B: "Because he lied Lo mt."
T: "He lied to you?"
B: "Yes. I saw him on television and be s&id my
taxes haven't been ra.i.sed. He looked me riaht in the
eye and lied to me."
At that point. Tom swtfUy changed t.M subject.
A wise move. It's haurdoua to get too deeply in·
volved in pollUCJ with your barber.
I know Yeats ago. I got m a row with my barber
and for three week6 I had to wear a hat.
* * * George Conroe ia re1ponsible for this.

ANOTHER SPECIAL
And )Ct another musical special this cominl
Sunday will be oHered by NBC·TV's "Telephone
Hour." a documentary portrait of Van ·Cliburn.
MIS6 Burnett's luckoff outing was a fairly pleu-
ant item. chieny be<:auae of some 1urpriamgly di!·
feren ttalent efforts by her guests. Surprise i.s a very
nice show business element. and it therefore enliven·
ed matters when Rock Hudson gave his all in a comic
medley of songs and some sketches; when Frank
Gor5hin proved himself a more than bath tub singer
and a light-stepper as well as an 1mprusionist; and
when Ken Berry, the fumbling l.Jeutenant of the "P'
Troop" senes. displayed some genuine talent for
hoofi ng and singing most amiably.
A word should be definitely said for the ron·
temporary Chemstrand commercals. which a.a a
group, were the best this viewer nas seen in many
a moon -mv~nt1ve and soph1st1caed, with a gay
sense of abandon. I'm sure I enjoyed the show more
because of them.
