Dear Mayor and City Council Members:
My grandparents, Elizabeth and Murray Rabbitt moved their family from Los Angeles to
Balboa in 1937. They have since deceased, however we still maintain our family home
of 80 years on Buena Vista, on the bayfront! I personally have seen this parade for 62
years and have had the luxury of introducing this great tradition to many of my friends
over the decades! Our family home continues to be an anchor for the viewing of the
parade during the 5 nights. I have been a member of the Commodores Club of Newport
Beach for the last 7 years and have been an active volunteer in this parade.
The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade has become part of the fabric of our Great
City. It not only draws over a million visitors to Newport Beach over the five night run,
but it also gets abundant Local, National and International press coverage giving The
City of Newport Beach incredible exposure. It also provides for five of the most
profitable nights for our local restaurants and yacht clubs. Harbor businesses enjoy a
very successful week as well with Charter Boat Business, Duffy Boat Rentals, Fuel Docks
and local Catering and Super Markets doing record business providing services for the
massive crowds and party's.
The Christmas Boat Parade is completely organized by a dedicated team of volunteers
run by The Commodores Club of The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce. There are
literally 100's of hours put into organizing and producing the Parade. And of course, all
of the entrants volunteer their time and boats to produce this time honored tradition.
I ask that you please continue to support this signature event for the City of Newport
Beach by extending the Sponsorship Agreement.
Sincerely,
Rich Fischbeck

Re: Extension of the Christmas Boat
Parade Sponsorship Agreement
To the Honorable Mayor Kevin Muldoon and City Council Members:
We respectfully submit this letter as support for the City's continuation of the Christmas Boat
Parade Sponsorship agreement.
As you know, since 1908, the Christmas Boat Parade has been a tradition in Newport Beach and
is truly a part of the fabric of the Newport Beach community. Now a nationally recognized
event, the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade brings thousands of visitors to the Newport
Beach area.
This spectacular event directly impacts the hospitality industry. As a member of this hospitality
community, the Boat Parade is the centerpiece of the holiday season and is a significant driver
for our business. Local community members as well as regional and national visitors join us to
celebrate the Christmas Boat Parade and to enjoy both the incredible boats and homes that are
on display during this wonderful week.
The Christmas Boat Parade is also the perfect tool to encourage future visitation to Newport
Beach. When guests arrive every year, it is a ideal opportunity to show them the incredible
destination that Newport Beach is and provide them with an amazing experience so they return
in the future, both to view the Christmas Boat Parade again & to return at other times during
the year to enjoy the many other incredible features of Newport Beach.

Re: Extension of the Christmas Boat
Parade Sponsorship Agreement
To the Honorable Mayor Kevin Muldoon and City Council Members:
The Newport Beach Christmas Boat parade has been part of the Cities fabric for
over 100 years. Each year the planning and execution of the Parade starts 10 months
ahead of the actual parade. Over 80 citizens volunteer their time to serve as Parade
Marshals. Current and past Council members have all been part of this group and each
has helped build the parade into the National event is today.
Yacht owners up and down the coast come and volunteer their boats for up to 5
nights of parading around the bay. The restaurants fill up and do multiple seating's.
Hundreds of thousands of visitors come and view the parade each night. All of this with
volunteer citizens making this happen.
I urge the Council to support the grant application for this signature event and
its passage.

To the Honorable Mayor Kevin Muldoon and City Council Members:
Since 1908 the Christmas Boat Parade has been a tradition in Newport Beach and part of the fabric of our
community. It has been an event that Balboa Bay Resort Guests and Balboa Bay Club Members look
forward to each and every year, as they crowd the properties different restaurants and hotel rooms for
the stellar views of the beautifully decorated boats.
Every year, the Parade is one of the busiest times for Balboa Bay Resort and Club. It is regularly a record
setting week for Rooms and Food and Beverage Sales. The first night of the Boat Parade is always the
kick off to our season, as it is the yearly Christmas Tree lighting that our guests and members look
forward to annually.
As a commodore club member, I am proud to assist in managing all of the logistics for the Parade, the
Chamber additionally promotes and manages the registration and then in January, the Commodores step
up again to produce an awards ceremony for the participants and the winners. Every year, local boat
owners and boat owners from other adjacent harbors volunteer and come to our fair city to participate in
our Newport Beach Boat -Parade.
Our spectacular event attracts people from all over the world to see our lighted harbor and an incredible
procession of boats that only gets better with each passing year. I have had the pleasure of meeting
many of these guests as they stay at Balboa Bay Resort and make a trip out of this experience. This is a
nationally recognized event that fills our hotel rooms and restaurants for all five nights. Balboa Bay Resort
relies strongly on this event yearly and its managers look forward to the amount of parade viewers it gets
as patrons.
I ask that you plea c94inue to support this signature event for the City of Newport Beach by extending

I would like to express my desire for the city to continue to support the Newport Beach Christmas
Boat Parade through its sponsorship agreement. This parade has been an institution in the City of
Newport Beach for over a hundred years, but is put on at great expense by the Newport Beach
Chamber of Commerce and the Commodores Club of the Chamber.
This event is very important to the city. It is one of the things that puts Newport Beach on the map,
and makes this city so special. And the city benefits greatly from the Boat Parade in increased
revenues from packed restaurants and hotels during the parade.
I feel that it is very important for the city to participate in this important, signature event by
continuing to support it through the sponsorship agreement.

Dear Members of the Newport Beach City Council and City Manager Kiff:
I am writing to you as a proud member of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, and as a recently
elected member of the Commodores. I understand that at your City Council meeting tomorrow, you will be
considering the renewal of the annual Christmas Boat parade sponsorship that you have graciously extended
to the Chamber for the past 4 years. As we all know, the Christmas Boat Parade is one of the most important
events for our City each year. The parade generates a great deal of revenue for the City, it is a source of pride
for all residents and it further solidifies our City's standing as one of the most popular visitor destinations
nationwide. This annual sponsorship goes a long way to ensure that the Newport Beach Chamber of
Commerce delivers a quality event, an important initiative since the expectations seem to be raised each year.
I respectfully request that you renew the Christmas Boat Parade sponsorship for the Chamber. As a member
of the Commodores, we all volunteer our time by working on the different committees that are part of the
effort that goes into the planning for the parade. I look forward to working on the 2017 Christmas Boat
parade Team, and I know that I speak for all of the Commodores and Chamber members when I say that we
appreciate the support that we receive from the City.
I look forward to seeing you at the City Council meeting tomorrow.

with the Boat parade. First seven years as a spotter for the announcer located at the
fun zone, For the last eight years I have worked as a Marshall in the parade and been on
the water 20 days during the parade. During this time I have talked with and given
information to dozens of people yearly most not from this immediate area. These
people spend a lot of money here every year. I have one family from Albuquerque
New Mexico who have come for a week yearly for 9 years. A lot of these people call or
email me yearly for parade dates, times, restaurant names, boat rental, and best
viewing locations.
With the great Media coverage and the very large amount of money spent here that
week, it seems that the current funding arrangement you have with the Chamber of
Commerce should continue at least at the current level if not improved.

My name is D.J. Martin, I am a member of the local business community and a long time member of the

the privilege of assisting with the Christmas boat parade for 17 years. Originally as a spotter and
assistant for the announcer at the fun zone. For the last 8 years I have been a marshall and have been
on the water about 20 days during the boat parade. During all this time I have made dozens of friends
(most are from other parts of Southern California) who now contact me each year for parade
information and best viewing places. Most of these people and businesses are from out of the area and
I have met people from as far away as Albuquerque New Mexico. The New Mexico family enjoys coming
yearly for a week.
The partnership that the City of Newport Beach and the Chamber of Commerce has concerning the boat
parade if at all possible should be maintained at the existing level. Because it works so well and draws
so much media attention and business to just about every part of the Newport business community.

About December 1 of each year, our then school-age kids (Nick and Kiki) would start hounding us about the Boat
Parade. Can Mom make the chicken soup and the chocolate chip cookies again? Can we take the thermoses of hot
chocolate (the kids didn't know that one of the thermoses contained Tom and Jerrys)? Will we see the Santa Boat? Can
we make the short trip from the house to Lido to sit near the docks with warm blankets, parkas, and ski gloves? Will we
again hear the stentorian voice of Mr. Jeff Parker wishing us all a MEEERRRY CHRISTMAS?
Yes, the Boat Parade is among the unforgettable memories our family has of a signature event in our beloved City.
Years later, I became a Commodore. We gladly accepted the marshalling duties (but without the Tom and Jerrys) along
with an army of other volunteers to make the Boat Parade an annual spectacle attracting media and folks from around
the world who fill our restaurants and hotels during this 5 -night tradition.
I respectfully request that you authorize Staff this evening to enter a new, three-year grant agreement for $50,000 per
year (for a total of $150,000) with the Chamber of Commerce for the Boat Parade.
Thank you for considering my thoughts.

,a,
My wife and I have been residents of Corona del Mar for more than 41 years. We love the city and are
fortunate to be here. During the majority of the years we have always had family and friend over for the
Christmas Boat Parade and to share our beautiful city with them during this Nationally known event.
As you know the Commodore's Club manages the logistics for the Parade and overall the Chamber has
always done an impressive job. I know as you do that it brings a lot of revenue to the City and it's
Businesses within.
I now manage one of the Yacht Clubs on the water and this Parade is a key element to revenues of the
Club and to all of our members. Like most of the Clubs, those 5 days in December where we host
outsiders to our city represents the Lion's share of revenue gained during the holidays. It is also a great
influence on people using the Waterfront.
The support the City gives the Chamber and the Parade are essential to keeping the level of
professionalism and fun in our Holidays.
As a local Business Manager and a longtime resident, I certainly hope you are able to continue the
much-needed support for this signature event on the water for our City.
