City Council Study Session September 26, 2017
Background
• City owns approximately 6,000 street lights
• In 2o16 City Council approved the replacement of
approximately 3,000 street light fixtures to LED
(Light Emitting Diode)
• Project Benefits
— Savings of 1,172,915 kWh annually
— Reduction in utility bills
— Reduction in maintenance costs
— Fifteen year lifespan of fixtures
— Efficient lighting
The Project
• Project cost was x1,067,765.82
— Approximately half paid through incentives
— Remainder paid through "On Bill Financing" (OBF)
• Using energy savings to pay for the project
• Zero percent interest loan
• No Fees or loan costs
• Convenient loan repayment through SCE bill
• Schedule
— January 2016- Council authorizes incentive applications
— May 2016- Installation begins
— December 2016 - Project substantially complete
— August 2017 — Installation and Incentives approved
What's Next?
• Completion of all outdoor lighting to LED
— 20o parking lot lights by end of 2017
— 1,800 post top lights by end of 2o18
