Re: Newport Elementary — Field Rehabilitation Project
Dear Council Members,
As the principal of Newport Elementary, I am sending this letter of support for the Newport
Elementary Field Rehabilitation Project. I met with staff from the City of Newport Beach and am
fully in support of this project. The existing field is in considerable need of refurbishing. The once
level field has been impacted by years of weather and windblown sand. Now, there are significant
raised mounds in the field which restrict the students' and public's ability to fully utilize this area
safely. Regrading the field, updating the wall, sidewalk, and drainage will add years of life and
usability to this important green space on the peninsula.
I urge you to approve the requested budget amendment needed to move this project forward. I
know that a level playing field will be a much appreciated benefit to the students at Newport El
and the community.
Thank you for your attention and consideration in this matter. If you have any questions, please
do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,

Agenda for February 27, 2018, Item 13
Suppot. The Central Newport Beach Community Association (CNBCA) supports the award of
this project, including approval of Budget Amendment No. 18BA-025.
The CNBCA Board met with staff from the City of Newport Beach and Newport Elementary
and are fully in support of the Newport Elementary Field Rehabilitation Project, which the
California Coastal Commission approved last fall. The existing field is in considerable need of
refurbishing. The once level field has been impacted by years of weather and windblown
sand. Now, there are significant raised mounds in the field that restrict the students' and
public's ability to fully utilize this area.
The CNBCA appreciates the resources and hard work that the City's Staff have expended
getting this project on the City's Agenda. We look forward to the completion of this project
which will add years of life and usability to this important green space on the Balboa
Peninsula!
Sincerely,
