Most Distinguished Members of the Administration.
NUMBER 1: Here is suggested changes to the DRAFT of previous meeting Minutes packet. Thank you.
RE:
"VII. CITY ARTS COMMISSION ANNOUNCEMENTS OR MATTERS WHICH MEMBERS WOULD LIKE PLACED ON A FUTURE AGENDA FOR DISCUSSION, ACTION OR REPORT (NON-DISCUSSION ITEM) "CITY ARTS COMMISSION ANNOUNCEMENTS OR MATTERS
WHICH MEMBERS WOULD LIKE PLACED ON A FUTURE AGENDA FOR DISCUSSION,
ACTION OR REPORT (NON-DISCUSSION ITEM) Commissioner Glabman requested an agenda
item regarding alternate performing arts events on Balboa Peninsula. Commissioner Divine requested consideration of a video/performance event on Balboa Peninsula."
CHANGE AS PER MY RECOLLECTION:
The correction is that I Grace Divine NEVER REQUESTED consideration of a video/performance of
event on Balboa Peninsula. Like I stated THEN, I am NOT a member of the subcommittee/panel/group who decides these matters. In response to Commissioner Glabman's request for IDEAS and alternative suggestions as apparently
they had run out of ideas for talent and I perceived that she was asking for help,
I SUGGESTED THE IDEA,
- should the committee be unable to find alternative talent-, THAT the committee consider the huge, varied, diverse and wonderful TALENT POOL encompassed by the CITIZENS in Newport Beach (YOUNG AND "YOUNG AT HEART" meaning all ages). I suggested that there is such wonderful
talent in Newport Beach and that the citizens here have so much to offer, that it was worth considering
THEM as prospective talent.
Again, in a casual manner, I SUGGESTED an idea, as I saw and interpreted the events, but did NOT "REQUESTED CONSIDERATION" of this. I was responding to what I saw was a query for help
from Commissioner Glabman. And as a commissioner I saw it as my duty to respond and to be of
assistance if possible. The entire suggestion was done in the spur of the moment in consideration of
what appeared to be a need to fill in an apparent void for talent. I made this suggestion because I believe greatly in the CITIZENS of Newport Beach and that all of them, have tremendous talent to
offer!
Please note, I have nothing invested in this personally. I know none of the people who would or may
have become a part of this idea and I am NOT a member of the subcommittee who decides any of
these matters.

RE:
"VI. CURRENT BUSINESS A. Items for Review and Possible Action
4...
Commissioner Divine suggested inviting people to perform a theatrical monolog or dialog with
videographers recording the performance. The City Arts Commission could prescribe the topic of the
performance. This would be a good way to stimulate younger people."

Please note that this section at stated, clarifies the idea that was presented somewhat, although it leaves
some CRUCIAL POINTS OUT. I did state that a theatrical monolog or dialog BY THE CITIZENS OF NEWPORT BEACH may be of interest to the public and could be so fashioned to be for the public benefit. And SPECIFICALLY, I SUGGESTED A PERFORMANCE event by the wonderful and
talented citizens in Newport Beach that would speak to "LIFE AND TIMES IN NEWPORT BEACH”
like boating experiences for example. So basically, as I explained these performances would be about
THE WONDERFUL LIFE IN NEWPORT BEACH! And finally, I did state that this event would stimulate NOT just the younger people, but I stated numerous times that this would be inclusive of all "YOUNG AND YOUNG AT HEART" as I believe that talent does not have boundaries or ages.
NUMBER 3: Re “Cultural Arts Activities for February 2018" Sculpture Exhibition Lecture series
Dear Tim, I am sorry if I am not present, if it would be at all possible to read this to the public, it
would be so awesome.
STATEMENT FOR THE PUBLIC: First, I would like to thank administration for allowing me to present this informative and educational art history live lecture series on the wonderful sculptures at the civic center park in Newport Beach.
Please note, I am presenting these lectures for the Citizens of Newport Beach, for all who attend, and
for the public benefit and solely as an independent VOLUNTEER Citizen.
Now, I would like to invite everyone to attend as these LECTURES are FREE and open to all. Finally, please note that in doing these, I in no way represent the City of Newport Beach or the Arts Commission in any way whatsoever.
I am sorry I couldn't attend the meeting today as I am bed-ridden from hip replacement surgery.
Should there be anyone who has any questions about the lectures or anything else, please contact me at
my email with the City. I thank you sincerely, Grace Divine
NUMBER 4:
CURRENT BUSINESS MONTHLY REPORT "B" #9 In relation to: "Commissioners discussed posting all submissions online, presenting a certificate or
small prize to all entrants, and possible categories for entries."
Please note, that it was I, Grace Divine, who made the suggestion that since this photo contest is
about people and families in Newport Beach, and also happens to be an amateur contest, everyone who submits would benefit from receiving A DOWNLOADABLE AND PRINTABLE AT HOME
i.e. " RECOGNITION SUBMISSION" kind of thank you from the City. As I stated, this would not
cost anything to the city, it would build tremendous GOOD WILL, and it would build confidence and
encourage everyone's artistic talent (specially the talent of all the wonderful young people living here.)
Although the matter was discussed, I do not recall any other commissioner making a like suggestion.
Finally, as I explained on the previous email, I HAVE REMOVED THE SUGGESTION I made to
Commissioner Glabman.
Thank you
Grace Divine
