West Coast Highway Landscaping Improvements Phase 1— Letter of Support
Dear City Council Members,
On behalf of our community and the Newport Shores Community Association (NSCA) Board of
Directors, I would like to express our appreciation and gratitude for the long awaited
commencement of landscaping upgrades along West Coast Highway in our neighborhood.
Residents from the NSCA remember participating in the community charrettes representing our
neighborhood during the planning process and have been very eager to see the results of their
volunteerism. We want to acknowledge staff's hard work and engagement with Caltrans together
with council's dedication and commitment to seeing these upgrades come to fruition. So, on
behalf of NSCA we say "thank you" to all who have played a hand in finally making this a reality.
While there is much to be thankful for, our community is reeling from the recent fire impacting the
Pine Knot Motel. Though the Pine Knot normally provokes the ire of the community, in this case
there is already a go -fund page set up to help the unfortunate souls that were living in the
ramshackle motel; clothes and other donations are being accepted at nearby restaurants. There
are many opinions on what may or may not happen as a result of this fire. We hope that the City is
a supportive partner in the process of re -building or re -envisioning the property and seizes upon
this opportunity to bring positive solutions and improvements to our neighborhood.
Newport Shores must not be overlooked as a front door to our great City. Our residents broadly
agree that we are a neighborhood within Newport Beach that still has examples of blight. We look
forward to your continued cooperation and commitment to improving our neighborhood.
Sincerely,
Rene Rimlinger, President
Newport Shores Community Association
