NEWPORT GEACH -After listening to three
months of accusations that Chief Arb Campbell
took part in and ignored years ·of sexual
harassment at the police department, police and
city officials said 1ha1 Campbell's firing Tuesday is . .
.. Obviously, this i~ not l pleasant time in our
city's history because these ac1ions are difficult,"
Mayor Clarence Turner said. "Dul by th e same
token, the citizen~ expect us to mo-.e forward and
put this behind us. We are looking forw::srd to
restoring confidence ::ind morale \\ithin the city's -
police department."
So far, 10 women police employees have alleged
in lawsuits that Campbell's friend, Capt. Anthony
Villa, fondled them and m:ide lewd and sexually
offensive comments towa rd them \\hile Campbell
d1d nothing to stop him.
Campbell and Vill::s also ::ire accused of ra in • a
reran dt pa er at a run en police departmenl
party. at the Bonita Canyon landfill in 1981. ·
Campbell was fired Tuesday by City Mnn;,iger
Kevin Murphy following a three-month
investigation. The city gave notice of termina1io1\
to Villa on Friday. ·

For more than a week now, hundred~
of volunteers from all walks of lif c have
flocked to the church to participate in
Share Our Selves' 22nd annual
adopt·a-fomily for Christmas program.
The largest program of i1s kind ih Orange County,
adopt-a-fomily matches the nce<liest-of the-needy with-
pcoplc who sign up to share their good fortune. -
whether it be big or small.
This year, more than l ,000 citizens, businesses and
schools adopted 1,500 families -most of whom re~ide
in Costa Mesa and Santa Ana. Adopting families were
required to buy at least two new gifts for each child, as
well as a complete turkey dinner with nll the
trimmings.
"But some go way overboard," said M:iry Cappellini,
daughter of SOS founder Jean Forbath.

raised a net $168,000 to support
research, educational programs and
community service projects in the
American Heart A sociation's
continued effons 10 reduce
cardio"ascular disease which is the
leading cause of death in the nation.
More than 6.400 walkers, runners
and cyclists came out to support the
Orange County Chapter of the
American Heart Association by
participating in the 12th annual Heart
& Sole Classic on I lalloween.
Participants walked, rnn or bicycled
the SK. !OK or 25 K course.

Making Christmas · wishes come true
M ore than 1,000 citizens, businesses and schools
adopted 1,500 families this year through Share Our
Selves' 22nd annual adopt-a-family for Christmas
p rogram.

and her f amity will have something on Christmas Day.

The largest program of its ktnd 1n Orange Covnty,
adopt-a-family matches the neediest of the needy with people
who sign up to share their good fortune -whether it be big or·
small. ·
Most of the adopted fam11tes live in Costa Mesa and Santa
Ana Adopting families were required to buy at least two new
gifts for each child, as well as a complete turkey dinner with all
the trimmings.
