In the line Of duty I am writing with
regards to the Daily Pilot article (July 5) regarding
the success of the police in keeping the problems in
our city to a minimum compared to last year.
The article stated that in addition to the
Newpon police working 12·hour shifts, some
ou~idc help was also brought in. This I find
interesting in light or the fact that on the 4\h of
July at approximately 3:30 p.m. six of Newport's
finest had the time to chat and have their picture
t:ikcn with a bikin1·clad young lady on the
boardwalk between 27th and 28th street.
A seventh officer, ll.howing some restraint. stood

Could it be that \\C did not need all those
reinforcements? Jn my humble opinion, it v.ould
have been wise r and mol'c cost effective fo r the six
officers to h:ive shown some discretion and
performed the job they were being paid 10 do.

Pulling my dirty old station •

Vision of me becoming John Kr~k facing Randy Johnson filled
my head This could get ugly.
It became abundantly
clear I was in troub le

We were briefed on the rules.
It'd be :i round-robin format \\ith
five teams of four players,
including one pro, using a 1·4

to score four points the winner of
a game and eight games in each
match, with the team and
individual player with the most
wins being the U\Crall winners.
Now thoroughly confused, I .
stepped onto the court for the first
