l don't believe that children should be able

to a meeting regarding gangs in Newport
and Costa Meu and the policeman 1a1d
one thing really stuck in my mind: If you
look like you belong in it, you probably do
and you could be mistaken for a gang
member by ju t wearing those clQtnd"aiid
have a real problem on your hands.
I like the idea of uniforms in ercmcntary
schools because everybody dre1.SC1 alike,
' there is no competition at that point. They
arc there to learn; they are not there to
h11ve a modelina contest. Out l really don't
believe that ~tids should be able to wear

get them in some real problems.

all schools. It cuts down on the competition
u to who has money and wbo can afford

Corona del Mar school and one who is still
there and I definitely think there should be
a ban on gang-related clothing. h 's
perfectly ugly, number one, and it just leads
to very improper conduct in my mind. A5

When I was ioina to South Pasadena Sin
Manno High School in the 1950s ~e wore
navy-blue skins, white blouses and any
color sweater we desired. Some or the more
affluent kids had unlimited funds to buy
clothes while other families ~re on riaid
budgets and the wcarina of the blue wrt
unirotms made everyone socially and
economically equal.
We were able to concentrate on our
school work and nO\ who WIS wearin1 the
latest fad. There was no trying to keep up
with the Jones. When you got up in the
morning you knew exactly what you "".Cre
goina to ._,ear to school that day, which
saves wear •nd tear on your recutar clothes.
It was a ireat idea and a win·win
situation.
