...,. Newport-Mesa District record
for career rushing yardage is
smashed within four-TD effort.
By Sany Faulkner, Sports Wnter
NEWPORT BEACH -It
took 32 seconds for host
Costa Mesa High to kill what
little suspense there was to
Thursday night's Pacific
Coast League football game
with Laguna Beach.
Senior tailback Binh "Runaway" Tran
bolted 63 yards of( right tackle on the first
play from scrimmage to break the New-
port-Mesa District career rushing record
and send the Mustangs (3-2-t , J-0 in
league) on their way to a 58-20 training
run through the Artisl5.
"It was a great practice ~cssion," said
Costa Mesa Coach Myron Miller, who
made the statement in the middle of
praising the rour-quarter scrappincss of
the out-manned Artists (J-5, 0-1). "La·
guna Beach never gave in, which allowed
us to sec our offense sustllin some
· drives." --------

Bryan Luxembourger was summoned to
toe 7 of 8 conversion kicks.
Lwtembouraer also added a 27-yard

Tnn, who needed just 33 yards to
break the district career mark of 2. 700 set
by N~rt Harbor's Steve Brazas in the
1992-93 seasons, finished with 321 yards
and four touchdowns on 18 carries in
