ers decided Tuesday that open
space isn't worth new taxes. end·
ing a campaign muddied with mis-
leading infomution and name·
calling.
The ballot quc.suon, considered
by some to be the most contrO\-er·
siaJ and heavt.ly debated issue
Ncwpon ever has seen, was re-
jected by about a t'-'O to-one mar·
gtn.
With all of the cuy's 37 prc-
cmct.s reporting. the ballot count
was 7,219 "yes" and 13,295 ''no"
-35.2 pcn:cnt 1n favor of the
measure, 64.8 percent against 1t.
The advisory measure needed
"yes .. ballots from at least 60 per-
cent or the \"Oten to survive.
