Eugene La Porte, 34, pleaded guihy last week
during his preliminary hearing 11 Harbor
Municipal Cou n in Newpo rt Beach.
La Porte reportedly commandeered a bus on
I 71h Street in Costa Mesa and led po lice on a
high·spccd chase t hat ended when he apparcntJy
pulled into :t San Juan Capistrano bar for a quick
beer.

Express Lube at the corner of Santa Ana Avenue
and 17th Street where he stopped to ask the

allegedly sped off down the Newport Freeway.
Various l11w enforcement agencies joined the
chase which ended when the sus~ct exited the
San Dieeo Freeway a1 Ortega Highway, parked at
the Swallow'& Inn and bolted into the landmark
