One o f &be really nice people
who has greatly contributed lo
our community is Dill Lu)k.
When 1 read in recent
newspapers some \.ery
di)paraging words 11bout Mr.
1.usk, I could not help but
woflder how a man who has !?iven
so unselfishly of hi!> time to ~
many worth" hile cau)~ could be
subjected to such rhetoric in the
press.
h occurred to me that the
people who wrote thC)C things
just )imply do not ~now Dill Lusk
or the great thing) he ha) done
for the comm4lnit)' O\er the pac.t
many years.
I have been fortunate lo ha\c
k.nown Dill both pcr:.onally ;.ind
professionally over the past 12
years. I thought it might be
he I pf ul to share "ith you ~me of
the ~nowlcdge I h:ne :.about this
truly good pen.on.
First of all, Dill has
magnanimously given of his time,
talent and financial rc)uurccs to
the Chamber of Commb~c
sct'\ing a.> one of n small number
10 ha\'e ser;red t\\O terms as
chairm:in ~f the Ne\\<port Harbor
Arca Chamber of Commerce.
In fact, he was probably the
most important dri\'ing force,
along with two or three others, in
bringing the Chamber of
Commerce bujldins into existence
tit its present ~1100 on
Jamboree Road.,
Our chamber building senes ns
a symbol that bu)iness is :llivc
and well in Ne~port Beach. Bill
has also been the driving force
and ~renniaJ chairman behind
the Newport Harbor Christmas
Doat Parade that now attracts
nearly one miJlion viewers to our
beautiful harbor -viewers who
spend much-needed dollars in
our· community.
In addition, Dill has been an
active supporter of the Hoag
Hospital 552 club serving on the
board an'cl ch:iiring the famed
ChriMmas Olrol 13all.
He supports the Doy Scouts,
the Girl Scouts, YMCA, ATSC
and most every other ch:irity in
the community without a great
dc:il of fanfare. But that'~ the
real bea wy of this indhidu:il who
gives because he f ecls for people
and ca~s and not for the •
recognition.
This community has truly been
ble~d to have a man like Dill
Lu!>k bccome'involved and
.., actively suppQrt like no one e bc
l\e C\'er seen. My sincere thanks
go 10 Dill and hi$ family (or not
only what he has given the
Newport Harbor Chamber but
what he h.as given the entire
Newport Beach community.
