He drove a taxi while
allcnding college and obtained a
maslcrs degree in composition
and orchestration from the
American Conservatory or
Music. Aflcr college he worked
as a music contractor and played
bassoon for the Houston
Symphony. In 1957 he moved to
Californ ia and rour years later,
mlrried his wife, Janet.

being," he says. "It's hard being
married 10 a musician." The
couple now have five children.

The 65-year-old Costa Mesa resident is known
arourid campus for his eccentric style and sense of
humor. He says it helps to have fun when leading
the orchestra.

Remington says he has no current plans for

The 60-piece symphony includes s1udcnts,
p rofessionals and community men1bers who donate
their time to the organiza1ion.

He started teaching al age 50. After yearS of
v.·ork.in g in the music business, Remington says. he

students at OCC.
