.. But students say new
rules are· 'fraught with
ambiguity.'
·ey Mary Ann Harmon, Staff Writer
NEWPORT-MESA -School
trustees approved a new district-
wide dress code policy Tuesday
night, despite cries from students
that it restricts their freedom of
expression. ,
The decision comes after many
ho~ of debate and four separate
discussions·at public meetings.
After the final vote went down,
some of the mainly Corona del
Mar High School students at the
meeting said they weren't
informed about the policy in its
working stages.
Hl feel like the student body
wasn't even informed about this,"
said Corona del Mar freshman
Caroline Colesworthy. "They
didn't seem like they wanted us
to know."
M~y $!dents say the policy
will not be received well at the
schools.
A protest has already been
scheduled for Thursday at New-
port Harbor High, advertised by a
flyer with a picture of marching
· military cadets in full dress uni:
form.
The Corona del Mar High stu-
dents, who also poked fun at 'the
trustee's clothing, said they were
patticularly concerned with the
fact that their campus doesn't
have a mejot'-dr:ess~ p.eblem
that needs fixing.
Hl feel that a proposal of this
nature, fraught with ambiguity
will be perceived as ill-conceived
and oppressive and will promote
divisiveness and dissension
among the student populous,"
said Corona del Mar High School
junior Rocky Seven.
"Thus, shifting, once again,
focus from academia to matters of
insignificance. "
The policy was created by a
committee made up of teachers,
parents, students, administrators

It was that very film which drew com-
plaints from a homeowner last year who
objected to the film's subject matter and
brief frontal nudity. Capune canceled the
screening and finished the summer season
with 'The Endless Summer' in September.
Between the complaints and the
blowout of one of his amplifiers, Capune
toyed with the idea of "closing the bal-

Of course, the complaints are nothing

residents may ultimately ,need to

Four men were arrested at a

Soon after, ·Bruce Lester Cald-

school's 25-girl enrollment per class,
forced it to combined grades against
teams allowed to fie ld eight-graders.
The Seahawks defeated an eighth-
grade team from Costa Mesa-based St.
John's, 4·2 in the first round, behind three
goals from forward Jamie Brownell, two
coming on comer kicks by Julia Liv·
ingston.
Kathryn Salter also converted a Liv·
