Over the past fe w months administrators from the.r city'~ chamber of commerce, economJc development committee and con- ference and visitors bureau have met repeatedly with tournament ~ntke-the-t~ to Newport Beach. Toshiba offi- cials had narrowed the search to the Newport Beach Country Club and the Coto de Caza Golf Club, according to city Economic Development Director Rush Hill. But.once it became clear what kind of a "total package• tbe city could offer, Newport Beach won the derby, Hill said . Since the city hosts the annual bo"at parade and SeaFest, Newport Beach knows how to assemble sponsors and large numbers of volunteers, Hill said. "We .delivered the m essage that we understand these kinds of events and we can coordinate the agencies that are required to achieve an event of this magni- tude,• Hill said.
