18-game winning streak
against the Hawks (16-2,
5-0) which dates back to
the PCL's inception in
1986-87.
Interim Mesa Coach
Shontel Sherwood, how-
ever, said it's not time to
wave any whlte flags.
Asked if the recent
tumult could make it dif-
ficult for her team to maintain focus
for the second round of league,
Sherwood answered with a stem
shake of the head.
Indeed, the Mustangs did not
appear to be distracted by the
absence of Lurmann, a 6-foot-1
senior who "has chosen not to be a
part of this team any longer,"
according to Sherwood.
Lurmann had returned to the
team after missing the first 10
games, then scored 52 points in nine
games coming off the bench.
Instead, U was a dominating
defensive display by the league-
leading Hawks which took the visi-

Every Newport Harbor player scored

which scored the game's maiden basket,
then watched the hosts blow it open

The Tars' 10-0 scoring spurt in the first

• Corona del Mar girls get off the floor to
post decisive Sea View League victory.
By Jim Walters, Daily Pilot
IRVINE -If you left Thursday's game between
the Corona del Mar High girls basketb&ll team and
Itvine shaking your head you were in good compa-
ny along with the Sea King coaching staff, the play-
ers and fans.
Irvine wasn't very happy either, for that matter,
after watching an early 16-point lead disappear in
the closing minutes as Corona del Mar pulled out a
53-48 Sea View League victory.
·we were still feeling th~ effects of the Wood-
bridge game," said CdM Coach Garth Aint, whose
Sea Kings improved to 15-6 overall, 2-3 in league.
They're now tied with Irvine at 2-3 while the Vaque-
ros dropped to 10-9 overall.
The Sea Kings came out as flat
as day-old soda after being wal-
loped by powerhouse Wood-
bridge earlier in the week, 89-39.
After putting toge~er an impres-
sive first half where they trailed
Woodbridge by only five, they
were swamped 52-7 in the sec-
ond half (including a 27-0 run).
The Sea Kings made Irvine
look like Woodbridge, letting the
Vaqueros jump out to a 12-1 lead
with 3:39 left in the period. Ford
"That's when I made a big-
time bet and pulled some of my starters,• Flint said.
•Tuey weren't very happy about it and they told me
they were going to prove me wrong. Luckily they
did, but it sure was ugly."
Out of the lineup came leading scorer Lindsay
Warmington, second-leading scorer and rebound-
ing leader Jennifer Gardner and seniors Nicole
Albano and Melissa Ford.

waltzed in for a layup to make it 20-4 .
Warmington got hot and poured in 11 of her

pretty well to hold a team like this to

Though Haneef only racked up
eight ~ints worth of damage at the
offensive end, sh~did block 10 shots

And when the Mustangs weren't
trying to traverse Haneef's tree-limb
arms in the paint, they were being
picked clean on the perimeter by
Lagun,a Hills junioc guard Tamara
Inoue, who amassed 14 stealS.
"Defense has been doing it for us
all year,• said Hawks Coach Lynn
Taylor, whose team appears ready
and able to claim the school's first
basketball league championship of
any kind.
The Mustangs missed 14 o! their
first 15 field goal attempts, spanning
the fust 10:43, allowing the hosts to
seize an 11-3 lead that they contin-
ued to expand.
Junior point guard Koo Kim
paced the Mustangs with 11 points,
eight rebounds and three steals,
while sophomore Julie Collett con-
tributed seven points and seven
rebounds, and senior Katie Grogan
added seven boards.
Woodruff opened the third with a three this time
to put Irvine ahead, 35-26, but the Sea Kings kept
battling and were down only five, 41-36, going into
the final period.
Woodruff again opened the scoring for tm.De ill·
the fourth, hitting another three to push the lead to
eight, 44-36, while the Sea Kings were busy com-
mitting three turnovers to open the period;

Sat~ Health West (SHW) beganm July 1989, when
residential homeowners found
out their home contained
hazardous and/or toxic
substances, and they were
unable to find reputable
abatement/remediation
contractors and consultants to
evaluate and remove the
hazardous materials. These
problems were compounded by
the lack of regulatory controls,
incomplete or shoddy services
performed by other
consultants/contractors and
property owners who failed to
disclose to the
Realtor(s)/buyer(s), or were·
un"wa.re of the presence of
hazardous or toxic substances on
their properties.
What sets SHW apart from the
rest, is our relentless dedication
to duty. Unlike some firms, we
enjoy talking to our clients. The
more we understand our clients
and their needs the better we
serve them.
All of SHW's asbestos
inspectors are registered Cal-
OSHA asbestos consultants and
have successfully completed an
EPA/OSHA Competent Person
and/or EPA Asbestos Hazard
Emergency Response Act
(AHERA) training course(s), and
have a minimum of three yea.rs
experience performing industrial

Should the owner decide to
remove the hazardous material,
SHW can_ d~sign a spegtication

SHW takes pride in providing
