UnW Monday, the new 15- member te am had enjoyed a successful season practicing, playing and joking together. But the death of their teammate, Dylan Urquiza, a 16-year-old freslunan who was fatally shot in Santa Ana Sunday night, changed that. •They were crying like babies," said ~arc 1Catz, tlie Back Bay Bom bers' basketball coach and teacher at Back Bay High School in Costa Mesa. ·(Dylan) was a friend to ev ~ry­ one on the team. He lived hi! life with a lot of heart. • · The news of Urquiza's death was a shock to both the staff and students at Back Bay High School, located at the Newport- Mesa Urufied School District's alternative education center. ·1 couldn't believe-it,* Katz said. ·They called me at home.
