NEWPORT-MESA -A motion to sell
the Costa Mesa High School farm fell one
vote short Tuesday night, for cing board
members. to postpone the decision for
now.
The board's deciston came after emo-
tional de bate and an attempt by two
board members to kill outright a plan to
declare the 18-acre farm surplus and offer
it for sale.

CORONA DEL MAR -In separate
votes Tudday, trustees of the Newport
Harbor Art Museum and the Laguna Art
Museum approved a plan to merge the
two facilities into a single county art
museum.
The new museum, which will be
called the Orange County Museum of
Art, will eventually take up residence at
the Newport Harbor facility m Newport

NEWPORT BEACH -State
assembly candidate and local res-
ident Marge Pantzar said Tuesday
a water district plan to dump treat-
ed sewage in the Back Bay has
potential benefits for Newport
Beach.
· "They're all going to kill me,•
said Pantzar, who is trying to
unseat state Asse mblywoman
Marilyn Brewer in next month's
GOP primary, "But I think we
need to have a voice of reason
here. We need to look at this from
other directions. I think this pro-
ject could be very healthy for the
bay."

COSTA MESA -Grief was a
new and unwekom~ experience
for the Back Bay 13'ombers bas-
ketball team.
UnW Monday, the new 15-
member te am had enjoyed a
successful season practicing,
playing and joking together. But
the death of their teammate,
Dylan Urquiza, a 16-year-old
freslunan who was fatally shot in
Santa Ana Sunday night,
changed that.

· The news of Urquiza's death
was a shock to both the staff and
students at Back Bay High
School, located at the Newport-
Mesa Urufied School District's
alternative education center.

the-Box, they were stopped by a
lone gunman, police said.
The gunman asked the pair

tried to explain that he was not
in a gang, police said

over Concordia, the Vanguards (19-11, 9-5) finished in
a second.place tie with the Eagles, behind front-runner
Azusa Pad.fie. The tournament winner receives an
automatic bid into the ~AJA Natiollal Championships.

ing at a 17.7-clip.
The backcourt pair are also two thirds ol the Cru-
sader three-point triumVirate ranked among the top
eight GSAC scorers from behind the arc.

Brett Psilopoulos, a 5-10 guard, is third in the GSAC, hitting
